Will this game system work for me as a way to use my 40K models? They would still be sort of Chaos and Sort of Ultramarines ad sort of Dark Eldar.

Still want the feel of 40K flavor of the separate armies but need it to be playable and I am not afraid of detail. I want to have games that are more a story rather than throwing some die and something happens. No more I go you go either. I was converting Face of Battle to this purpose but as with all projects I will get close to finished and I would move on to the next distraction.

Author-dude here, so forgive my blatant promotion :-)

Clash was written intentionally to follow the feel of Rogue Trader and old school Warhammer 40K in general.

You can stat up power armour dudes, mutants and theres quite a few aliens included, including "not-eldar".

You don't get army lists but you do get a points system or you can roll up a set of random story keyboards and go with that.

The turn sequence is like this:

Each side rolls a D10, add the highest Training score of any units they havent moved yet, high scorer picks a unit and acts.
On a draw, each player must pick a unit that fails to activate this turn, and then you roll again.

So sometimes you'll move a few units in a row, sometimes it'll keep alternating.

Let me know if that helps at all.

Crunch-wise, it's not nearly as detailed as Face of Battle but probably a bit more in-depth than Rogue Trader was. More streamlined though.

Ask away, if you have any questions.

Cool. That is down the path I am wanting. It happens this way:

New Horus Heresey Book. Dig out some of the old RT Models.

Put units together--remember I do not like the GAME of 40K anymore. Look at awesome painted models. Sigh. put them up.

Then go on Scribd.com and look at White Dwarf issues from good old days for free. And the Realms of Chaos and Freebooterz to. This is a great resource guys. For $4 USD you can download and print all the old stuff. $4. USD

@Bravo:

I think the rules do 40k games wonderfully. Here's a game I ran of it a few months ago. link

It really felt like a cross between old 2nd Edition games and high-intensity skirmish gaming, like Battleground WWII. Fun stuff. The one thing I did change was to basically create a close combat stat, which folded in the weapon mods and the various other traits, to speed up reference during the game.

I agree with all the above. We used it for a tyranid scouting force attacking a genestealer cult.

You know, you can't go wrong with an AAR that includes a genestealer cult limo :)

Thank you all.

Gringo-- I like what I see. what you had for Chaos reminded me of the old Chaos Retinue that were ran with random rolls or what you had on hand. This is what I want.

Weasel-- will be giving these ago. Have a Limo myself packed away. Far away. would be nice to get those old models out. Those were from college days.

Thank you TMP and Editor for killing off my duplicate post.

Nothing sadder than old miniatures, sitting unloved :)

Hope you enjoy the game and let us know if you run into questions.

That Genestealer cult game persuaded me to buy the rules. Plus it was such an excellent game concept!

Bravo Two Zero22 Sep 2015 4:46 p.m. PST

I think I will go way off course. My Chaos Retinue of some Word Bearers led by Erebus the ultimate baddie vs my 3 year old Daughter's Karman from AT43. Story is so far fun for once.

Karmen occupy a long forgotten Eldar Maiden World. this Maiden world was colonized by Humans before Age of strife. The Eldar discovered this and cleared the planet. noticed the Ape like creatures only needed a nudge to achieve the next stage. A deal was stuck. Ape get smart. Defend against any incursion. Now Erebus has it on good authority, Chaos Authority, that the humans once had a worship of chaos that is what drew the Eldar attention to this world.

dark eldar get there from knowing via Web Way. A Kabal is a tough place needs a place to crash. Abandoned Maiden World. Should work out for them.

So how is that for a starter? Will need to make up stats for some of the crazy guys and stuff and how to stat up a gorilla tricked out on stim drugs and the like.

I like the ideas for this. Mish mash but dang this has me all jazzed. Thank you and anyone want to add to the idea brain storm go for it.

As per Grignotage's game, I agree with the idea of Marines (Chaos and loyal) being statted very high to stay in line with their background. We have used the Elite Assassin template with Powered Armour and a couple of Traits (Unstoppable plus any chaos themed ones you think appropriate).

For Dark Eldar, maybe use the Hardened Veteran template and increase speed by 1". Probably in Light Armour. Traitwise, there's lots to choose depending on how you view the DE or particular unit. Brutal, Light foot, Agile, Free Running etc.

Don't know too much about the Karmens. Maybe look at the Brute or Warrior templates for inspiration.

Last night we played Daleks vs Gangers and CotF handled it beautifully.

Good luck.

Weasel23 Sep 2015 9:17 a.m. PST

How did you stat up the Daleks? :-)

mashrewba16 Dec 2015 11:50 a.m. PST

Daleks -oh -now we're talking!!!
What sold me on this were these two lines from the Q&A

"I wanted a game that felt like a space adventure, not an exercise in cosmic misery."

"What if Rogue Trader had been released today?"
