I suspect it is rather a moot point, until the F-35 becomes fully operational, after the software is written, due sometime around 2022, or later if the target date slips. Perhaps that's part of the reason the Canadians are considering cancelling the F-35 purchase, despite supporting the R&D to this point, and reconsidering the purchase of Typhoons, Rafales, or those tired old F-18s. |

Caught a three way discussion on Canadian radio via satellite radio and the moderator had a hard problem getting anybody to give "how much will this cost" in concrete terms for what they were talking about. ( Or is that "a boot"?) Basically it sounded like 1) hang in there, it will be worth the cost 2) start all over again from requirement determination 3) buy other "off the shelf" planes Then they got on to moving money from the Air Force to buying aircraft for the Navy… and the sanctimonious sounding "… We have never had a requirement for a first strike option…" debate – after a few seconds I switched to the iPod… |
