Been a long time coming , but finaly managed to get the Macro lens I was after.

Here are some Pictures of my Russians Courtesy "Emperor's Own". Took delivery of the last of my line cavalry early this year. And they look awesome – always been happy with the level of service and commitment.

Thanks Scott and team !

Not sure my 28mm figures could take this degree of magnification. The camera spots every slight error, but figures like your hussars' lace, the cloth edges to the cuirasses, the infantry belts……amazing.

You may not want greater depth of focus, as the result here is actually very atmospheric. It does look like a battle.

But could I ask more about camera, lens, lighting, settings? f number, exposure time, tripod? Or did you get press "auto" as we all do these days?

Only just noticed the captured eagle……..brilliant!

Wow!

McWong7320 Sep 2015 2:13 a.m. PST

Got to be happy with that.

julianmizzi20 Sep 2015 3:44 a.m. PST

G'day Deadhead,

The camera is a Canon EOS 60D. The lens is a MACRO 100mm f2.8 IS L series lens. The pics were taken under artificial light , hand held, the image stabiliser works a treat.

Ive taken some more pictures tonight. On the auto setting. Still hand held. Ill post them up soon.

Very happy with the results :)

Aha! I now know the secret to putting together the Russian army I've been working towards for so long! Pay someone else to paint it…? Sigh…

Beautiful work--that's about as clean as you can do a drummer.

Fine looking figures; excellent job.

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP20 Sep 2015 6:52 a.m. PST

Those massed cavalry…………the Uhlans……….even better pics

So then I checked out the camera. This is a serious bit of kit, even without the macro lens. I often laugh at my Yashica Dental Eye II, that I bought in late 80's for £800.00 GBP+….macro lens, ring flash etc but 35mm analogue. Who wants that now? It went to a local charity shop last month…worth £30.00 GBP-40 according to E bay. My current Pentax istDS would now sell for a fraction of what I paid several years ago.

When SLRs can be bought for a few hundred these days….your's is a quality piece of kit……envy. I may do few overtime sessions post retirement/part time work!

Great looking collection love the Russians. They are painting some early Russians for me can't wait to see them now!

paulalba20 Sep 2015 7:05 a.m. PST

Wow this is Ace Julian!

waaslandwarrior20 Sep 2015 8:46 a.m. PST

About the best a 15mm can look.
Great collection!

And a fine camera to make pictures like this.

I don't know what you paid to have these painted, but I would say money well spent. You should be proud to put these on the table…and if they can win, even better!

Fredloan20 Sep 2015 2:05 p.m. PST

They do an awesome job, at a very reasonable price. I have about 3,500 figures painted by them. Bavarians, French, Russian, Austrians.

Gonsalvo20 Sep 2015 3:28 p.m. PST

Wowzers! :-)

Both the painting and the photography!

vagamer63 Supporting Member of TMP20 Sep 2015 5:21 p.m. PST

My Russian and French armies were painted by Scott's crew, and they are the envy of my gaming buds! They look very pretty, and they can really fight too!!!

winser5420 Sep 2015 5:29 p.m. PST

What a beautiful collection! Thanks for sharing so much of it.

davbenbak21 Sep 2015 4:54 a.m. PST

I see a lot of stuff listed on-line as "pro-painted" quality. This is definitely the standard! Congratulation! Great army.

julianmizzi21 Sep 2015 5:19 a.m. PST

Thanks guys for the comments. I'm Still getting used to the new lens . Its working out a treat. And it does real justice to the figures and the paint work.

Thanks again

Fuzzy Gopher Supporting Member of TMP30 Sep 2015 5:57 p.m. PST

Awesome work!

Both by the painting team and your use of the Macro lens – the photos have motivated me to dig out that pile of unpainted Russian lead and get to work.

For the photos – did you bounce the flash or set up some other method for lighting? The results are amazing.

Thanks
F.G.

julianmizzi04 Oct 2015 5:07 a.m. PST

G'day F.G.

Thanks for the comments. No there was no flash lighting involved. Only the down lights in the room.

I'll add some new photos , as my Russians were in combat alongside their Prussian allies today.

The Tyn Man05 Oct 2015 3:30 a.m. PST

Looks Great! What scale and make are those figs?

julianmizzi05 Oct 2015 3:41 a.m. PST

18mm AB figures

The Tyn Man05 Oct 2015 4:18 a.m. PST

Thanks for the reply. By the way, do you know who makes those Standards in the photos? They look fantastic, almost like they're made of cloth.

Again, what a Great looking collection and thank for posting the pics.

julianmizzi05 Oct 2015 6:13 a.m. PST
