I have the Osprey, but are there any good books or websites with good examples of period clothing, colors, etc? Getting ready to start painting and not sure the Osprey is sufficient to carry me through.

You might try the SCA website. They have lot of info for various periods.

The Company of St George, a re-enactment group at least partly founded by the Embletons and the Perry twins. As well as their event photos they have a detailed male costume guide as a pdf download.

+1 on Company of St. George. They set the bar suitably high, in my opinion.
