While reading Boatner's Encyclopedia of the American Revolution about Cowpens (with if course two digressions before I got there…) I ran across a reference to "Grasshoppers of Saratoga". The American army captured two British 3pdr grasshoppers at Saratoga. They were later captured by the British at Camden. And later captured by Morgan at Cowpens. To be captured by Cornwalis at Guilford Courthouse. I wonder what happened to them next. |

They were given to the French who surrendered them to the Germans |

Sounds like nobody wanted them. |

I am curious about the light cannon used by the Ga/SC militia army under Floyd in the creek war/182. The notes on the cannon indicate that it was a cannon captured at Saratoga. |

It would not surprise me if they were captured by Wolfe in 1759…. |

I made a joke about serial numbers on cannon in an earlier thread. Surprisingly, I was right. So bureaucrats in the army (and has any army ever been without them?) record the cannon numbers and sooner or later they pop up again. Rudy, maybe Cornwalis surrendered them at Yorktown. And they ended up in some militia. |
