I have a large 15mm SYW collection which I am adding to. All of my figures are based on Renaissance Ink bases. To my horror, it looks like RI is now out of business. The bases I used were described as thin plastic with a magnetic bottom. Does anyone know where I can get more of this kind of base?

Thanks in advance!

Make your own!

Plasticard, magnetic tape, Stanley knife, scissors.

Litko make a them in plywood. 0.8mm and 1.5mm thick. But you have to buy the magnet separately and put them together (the magnet is self adhesive). One of the thicknesses should be close enough for your needs….

You can get plastic/styrene sheets scored to 1/4 or 1/8 inch. You can buy the magnetic sheets and glue them together…

I think Litko is now selling 3mm and 6mm thick bases. One of those should be very close to RI.

Only a small portion are shown on the site. We can make pretty much any size square or rectangle, metric or imperial!

Kallistra makes plastic bases in various sizes, at 1.8mm thick.

ACWBill I have some of your bases and love them and wanted to reorder but the shipping costs 1/2 to 1/3 of my total order.

A warning about Litko: the magnetic material they sell for their basing material is very thin, and not very magnetic. I bought a pile of 1"x1/2" bases with matching magnetic stick-ons, and after a big project assembling them, discovered they don't hold my miniatures down well enough. For that much effort, I can do it cheaper and better myself.

Litko does sell 6mm thick bases, like the RI ones, but the trick is that you may need to look for them under their "custom bases" option on the website. I just looked and you can get (for example) 60mmx30mm laser-cut wood bases, 6mm thick, for about 50 cents US each. Y

RI bases supplied. Only the thin RI bases left. Bits of various sizes remaining.

Litko also has thicker magnetized basing available – I have no problem with the thinner 'standard' stuff for anything other than behemoth type units.

Just a follow-up after a few months spent exploring alternatives to Renaissance Ink.

I've now ordered several hundred Good Ground B Company bases from link Line Minis because they are almost identical to what I used to order from RI: pre-bonded magnet and hardboard, cut to size, about 3.5mm thick. The Good Ground bases are textured on top, which I personally don't like (the texture doesn't hold glue as well), but I still prefer these to Litko bases because they're ready for basing right out of the bag (if you want to magnetize Litko bases, you have to spend a lot of time applying and trimming the magnets).
