Does anyone know what equip at the IDF used when they crossed the Suez Canal during the 73 War. I see lots of M60s and M113s on pictures and videos . Was that the only type of tank that crossed?

As far as I remember (I was 14 in 1973 and already painting tanks…) there were still some Half-Track, Isherman and M48 in Sinai in 1973. I don't known if any of these old tanks crossed the Suez. I guess that most the old material took the brunt of initial combats and the counteroffensive was done with the newer material sent in a rush by the USA.

Sure there were Centurions as well, but they might have been on the Golan Heights at the time.

I read that the Centurion equipped units were in the north ( Golan etc) as they were better suited to the rougher terrain ……..the M48 and M60's more at home in the rolling desert of the Sinai……

List of Israeli Armoured Brigades and their equipment:

Sinai:
274th – Gonen – Tiran-4/5 (converted T-54/55's)
14th – Reshef – Magach-3
421st- Erez – Magach-3
600th – Raviv – Magach-6
217th – Nir – Sho't Kal
460th – Amir – Sho't Kal, Magach-3, Magach-6 (armoured training brigade to teach crews how to operate the different tanks)
500th – Keren – Sho't Kal
164th – Baram – Sho't Kal
401st – Shomron – Magach-6

Sho't Kal is re-engined Centurion, Magach-3 is M-48/105, Magach-6 is M-60
