"Charles Lefebvre-Desnouettes was a loyal and gifted Napoleonic cavalry commander. Sentenced to death after Napoleon's 1815 abdication, Lefebvre-Desnouettes fled to the United States where he settled on the Vine and Olive colony in Alabama. Despite his wealth, he was miserable and longed to return to France.
