Looking for terrain inspiration … Have you guys any idea where I could find images like this, of modern buildings that became "permanent" islands?
Perhaps sunken coastal towns or villages that were evacuated because of a dam was built and was going to create a lake? Note: I'm not interested in Katrina and other temporarily flooded structures though. Thanks, Dan TMP link TMP link TMP link |

You're not going to find many examples I suspect – villages flooded by hydro projects tend to end up completely submerged at the bottom of a very deep reservoir. The few examples that spring to mind are pretty much all churches, although Xuanping is worth a look. (It was completely flooded and then semi-emerged though.) |

As noted by Dom, most are completely submerged and at the bottom of reservoirs, but some are emerging or have emerged, such as this town in Argentina. A few of these images might be of us. link |

Wow that "Lion City" in China is just incredible, and really beautiful. |

Yeah, that's Xuanping – seems to be the closest thing to your OP, although it was fully submerged for several years. |

Here's another cool pic of Xuanping:

Who knows? If the doomsday forecasters are right for once, we might actually start seeing more exotic things like this:

Dan Can you picture gangways and sky bridges connecting many of those building together and those who would try to live there. Doug |

Did some digging and found these, I think they have a really heavy fantasy feel about them. I especially love the first one;

Found these as well, not strictly a building submerged, but rather flooded. This is an abandoned shopping mall in Thailand which is now flooded and inhabited by masses of fish. These images to me are just REALLY creepy, I could see all kinds of zombie apocalypse wargaming secnarios taking place in a setting like this;

Try looking for pictures from California. The current drought has lowered water levels so much that a couple of towns that were submerged have "surfaced" again. I'm not sure where this occurred but it has been in the news of late. |

Allen, Is this one of those California towns? link It's from the 1930s. Very interesting. I wonder if it'll stay above water long enough for plants and trees to grow on them. Or for people to build shacks on top of the human-built islands. Dan PS. Baranovich, those are amazing photos! |

Well if civilization ever does fall expect the levies around New Orleans to be one of the first things to fail. And New Orleans is sitting in a bowl just waiting to be flooded out again like it was during Katrina. |

Have you tried looking on Urban Ghosts? Or Environmental Graffiti? link Also, try urbex photography on Deviantart; although you are far more likely to find images of WW2 pillboxes on beaches below the high tide mark, waiting to face invasions that aren't coming. |

Even if some of the weather doomsayers do happen to be right, I imagine it will be quite some time before we finally some see tall (multi-level) concrete structures turned into islands:
