Remember play the first version of this 30 years ago. Saw the release but was going to wait to see what people had to say. Is on my wish list

I think I spent more time on 'Shingen the Warlord' and 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms,' but it could be interesting.

I bought it when it first came out. I had bought some baccus and irregular 6mm samurai so I had a desire to play a sengoku pc game. I was playing nobunagas ambition ii on dosbox haha so when this came out I was psyched.

I played as oda clan on normal my first game. Well long story short it took me a few games to not get wiped out by the Imagawas. The game is fun. The interface is definitely better than the dos version haha. It's all mouse driven.

The art work is cool too. It just has a nice pleasant vibe to it.

The battles are cool too. You can get surprise night attacks too sometimes. There are two levels to battle mode. One is zoomed out on road level. You can maneuver your contingents around. There are forts on the roads too so you can put a few contingents there and if they're attacked they get the defensive bonuses of the fort. Once opposing armies are in fighting distance you can zoom in to battle mode… You can also have large battle mode where you can get up to nine contingents per side.

In battle mode you can maneuver around. There is a fog of war element where you only know the basic whereabouts of the enemy but once you get in range their position is known. You can choose to fight via ranged attacks or move your unit in close for melee. You can also pull off special kind of bonus moves where you can increase certain abilities of your units.

The diplomacy is key too. You can arrange for peace just so you don't get stomped on and if certain clans get too powerful alliances can be created to oppose them. You can entice enemy officers to join you or sabotage the enemy.

All in all a good fun game. I've already played forty hours so far and there is more to do. You can play as different clans each with their own historical scenarios. Or you can make your own apparently… I haven't done that yet.

This game definitely scratched my Sengoku itch.

Cool. What got me interested in samurai and that era was when I read shogun in sixth grade. My classmates were like Bleeped text those books are thick and I'm like Bleeped text is good.

I'm not familiar with PTO but can look it up. But yeah I'm digging this new sphere of influence game.

Are you the author of killer Katanas? If so damn fine job. I did a review on you tube of the book. I gave it highly recommended haha.

One thing I was wondering…. In this new game high level movement is confined to roads. I can see that is to just simplify gameplay. But during Sengoku warfare were armies able to move off road? I imagine moving armies off road during this era would've been difficult due to Japan's tumultuous terrain. Anyway as a game element this adds to the strategy of the game.
