"The Future Soldier Vision (FSV) is part of the Ministry of Defence's plan to ensure that British soldiers of the future have high quality equipment, utilising the latest technologies. Today's unveiling shows what a soldier could be wearing and using on the battlefield in the 2020s, based on current military research and emerging commercial technology.

More crap that uses batteries! A truly futuristic soldier would be wearing something like a suit that captures the static electricity from his movement and converts it to power for his light, camera, radio, etc. Infantry, especially, need more independence from the supply trains, not less.

I believe just such a thing is in the development pipeline.

Less than impressed – in the haste to meet the digital challenge, old school visual camouflage has been forgotten – this soldier positively screams out loud in terms of shape, shine, shadow and silhouette! Get some face cream on, scrim out those harsh outlines, and get some of that local foliage on around the edges!

(On no wait, can't 'disrupt the local environment'!)

Doesn't look as if he's carrying too much ammo or water, either…

of course if you did that you wouldn't be able to see the new kit in this obvious publicity photograph (I know some of the team working on this and yes, those sorts of things are there in spades, they make for lousy demo phots)

Hmmm, that chest body armor, assuming that's what it is, appears to be a bit like that kids would buy at Halloween, from the local dime store.

New Rifle would be nice!
