So, I'm putting together a game featuring competing expeditions to Siberia around 1890-1910. I have figures for British, Russian, German, and Americans. I would like to include French personnel, but am not sure what troops would be sent and what figures would be appropriate. I'm doing this in 28mm and would potentially need both infantry and cavalry. Anyone have any ideas? |

You can never go wrong with the French Foreign Legion. I would think they would likely use cavalry already based in their colonies. Perhaps from Indo-China? |

From Indo China? In Siberia? I would use either Franco Prussian or Great War French. whichever looked to be dressed the warmest. I think there are some French troops in greatcoat in the Foundry Franco Prussian range. |

The Legion goes where it gets sent – you know that you are low on the pecking order when you go from Indochina to Siberia! |

I'd second OFM on using FP war figures, although Siberia can be unpleasantly warm in summer as it is frigid in winter, so greatcoat order may not be appropriate for a summer campaign. You can just adjust the color scheme to suit the origin of the troops, African skin with a European uniform or something based on French Indo-China. Something very close both geographically and time-wise would be to look at the figures for the Boxer Rebellion, where the French had a fair representation, and you never know what could have gone wrong in China that led to 'the late unpleasantness' in Siberia. |

I do not know any French expeditionary corps in Siberia during the 1890-1910 years. There were some good French troops in Siberia but during the revolution. It actually came from Tonkin and the Legion was not among them. Only troops from Navy and colonial. French Colonial Battalion Siberian sub Mallet Head battalion command Detachment Indochina (Tonkin) 9th Colonial Infantry Regiment under the command of Battalion Chief Mallet, 7 officers and 731 marines, including 277 Tonkinese
Detachment China under command of Captain Feneurstein 16th Infantry Regiment Colonial, 5 officers and 460 marines 5th Regiment of Zouaves , 4 officers and 202 Zouaves Total: 1409 Marines and Zouaves 2 more sections of the 9th R.I.C. guns A battery of 75 constituted with elements of the 4th Colonial Artillery Regiment and 5th Artillery Regiment Colonial. Arrived in Vladivostok in August 1918 and after a short but harsh winter campaign which earned him a summons to the order of the army, the battalion was repatriated in March 1919. For 1890-1910 you can use French army 1914, is the same uniforme (great coat 1877,Képi 1884) link Sorry for me bad english |

Rougeau- Your English is fine. Much better than my French as I will demonstrate in Grenoble next week 😕. Better still is your information. My proposed game is imaginary but the information you provide is perfect for my intentions. |
