"It's about time we had another hell-raising Christmas movie spectacular! Writer and director Michael Dougherty has a weird history under his belt, but one that might make Krampus just the right kind of crazy to be an awesome good time. He contributed to the screenplays for X-Men 2, Urban Legends: Bloody Mary (shout out to Kate Mara!), and Superman Returns before directing his debut Trick ‘r Treat in 2007 (which he also wrote). He also worked on the screenplay for the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, so he's got lots of superheroes and campy shock horror in his repertoire, and now he's turning his eye to German folklore.
Krampus is basically the anti-Santa, a half-goat/half-man demon freakshow who shows up on Krampusnacht (Krampus Night) in early December with a bundle of birch sticks on his back used for whipping bad children. He is also known to take their presents, and, in the case of the especially naughty, pack them away and take them to his underworld lair to be devoured as a Christmas dinner. Sounds German!
And so now we have Krampus the movie, starring Toni Collette, Adam Scott, David Koechner, Conchata Ferrell, and a host of others as a family trapped together in one house for Christmas dinner. This would normally just be The Family Stone, but then the power goes out in the middle of a snowstorm and a monstrous goat devil and his hideous henchmen show up to wreak havoc on everyone and everything. Happy holidays, all!"
