Take a look at this one. TMP link This poll seems structured to force an "Unlimited" result. Anyone who thinks that the Marketplace ads are being abused has so many choices that anything he votes for is guaranteed to fail. As of now, the 4 "Limit" choices have a total of 41%, while the "Do not limit" choice has 33% of the votes. Note that there are also two possible votes that amount to "No Opinion". I have seen far too many TMP Polls like this that are designed to give a predetermined outcome. This one is one of the most obvious. This makes the whole idea of Polls designed to set TMP policy a farce. If Dear Editor in Chief Bill wants to have a policy, let him implement that policy. But do not set up phony polls designed to wash out the results that are not wanted. At least that's my opinion. A fair poll on that topic would have three options, and only three. 1) A Supporting member should be limited in the number of threads he is allowed to post on one day in the Marketplace. 2) There should be no limits. 3) No opinion. Then, if 1) wins, have a separate poll IMMEDIATELY to determine the limits. The intent of this poll is blatant. The Editor wishes to have no changes, and wants a poll to certify that. Shoot. If he really wants to rig the results, make the poll look fair and rig the code. How hard is that to do? Or leave policy and housekeeping chores at the discretion of the Editor, and stop using the polls and the peanut gallery as a prop. |

No! TMP polls should be designed improperly. |
John the OFM | 14 Sep 2015 10:18 p.m. PST |
Ok. How about these choices, following current practice? 1) TMP polls should be designed properly. 2) No. TMP polls are a farce to begin with. 3) No, TMP polls are beyond your limited intelligence. 4) Who pays any attention to TMP polls? 5) Things are fine as they are. Stop rocking the boat. 6) ZARDOZ 7) No opinion 8) I don't care 9) So what? 10) We have polls? 11) Trust The Editor in Chief That's enough choices to wash out any YES votes. |
John the OFM | 14 Sep 2015 10:23 p.m. PST |
No. I was wrong on that. HERE is a poll that follows current practice. 1) TMP polls should be designed to give a decisive result. 2) TMP polls are serious business, and should be handled accordingly 3) TMP polls are too serious to be left to amateurs 4) TMP polls should be constructed seriously 5) TMP polls should be set up seriously 6) Things are fine. 7) No opinion. (just to satisfy the undecided. There. THAT should give results that are wanted. |

Were we meant to take TMP polls seriously? I must have missed that poll. |

I think this is further evidence that the OFM and Winston are really Bill, AND he's having an argument with himself. Agree? My favorite polls are those where you get to choose your top five, and then there are only five choices, other than "no opinion". Those are classic………. In all seriousness though, the OFM, Winston, Bill, may be on to something here. Please add the "I prefer cake" option to all of the above. |

Polls only have the importance Bill gives them. Period. Don't like the crazy structure? Dpn't vote. Or take a chill pill/grain of salt and have fun. Now if these were serious voting matters then JtOFM/Winston would have a point. But they are not anything but buzz feed. |

Polls are only as good as the questions. As someone who has done higher research at university I can attest that there is a real art and science to creating a meaningful questionnaire. That being said there are many polls on here that are poorly expressed. A poll on a feature of FOW with "I do not play FOW" as a choice is redundant. If you don't play, you don't express an opinion. That is unless you want to know total participants in survey who play v not play FOW. But that is another set of data :-) |

TMP polls ARE designed properly. Everything IS as it is SUPPOSED to be. Now sir, please come with us… |

8. The polls are fine as long as they are built to get the result -I- want. (As this particular poll is). 8)= |

Relax, John. We all know that it doesnt matter what rules are set in place for any section of TMP. Someone somewhere will get their panties in a wad and bitch to high heaven till someone offers a poll foe a solution. This will either spark a poll or a moratorium on the subject til another panty-wringer pops up. just pick the ZardoZ option and move on. |

If you want to have rules for polls, then I demand a Quick Refference Sheet. There should be some charts to. What are rules without charts. |
Crow Bait | 15 Sep 2015 12:08 p.m. PST |
Oh, and before I forget, don't go all glossy and hard bound on these poll rules. If it is not a free download, I do not want to play! |
Editor in Chief Bill | 15 Sep 2015 12:26 p.m. PST |
The intent of this poll is blatant. The Editor wishes to have no changes, and wants a poll to certify that. The poll options were designed by the person who proposed the poll, and not by myself. |

I'm glad this topic popped up. Without some controversy on TMP the sad, pointless old men over at the Frothpot'd have nothing to talk about. |
