As previously reported on several local news outlets, on September 1, 2015, the Lancaster Host failed a food preparation inspection by the PA Department of Agriculture. All food service at the venue has been suspended until repairs are made and a new inspection is successfully passed.

The HMGS Board of Directors and Fall-In convention staff are aware of the situation and have been in contact with the hotel management.

As the situation now stands, the hotel management has stated that during the past two weeks they have made all repairs and corrected all the outstanding violations. A new inspection has been scheduled for Wednesday, September 16th.

I will provide another update as soon as we have information on the results.

Respectfully,
John Spiess
HMGS Director of Communications

Well, not so worried about the food, it was barely edible before…. How's the roof holding up?

And thanks for the update!

No problem for me, I never buy food there.

I always looked in disbelief at the "Chinese" stuff in a Sterno pan that had been there for hours.
It was like Host management was saying "You don't get anything new until you finish what's in the pan now!"

But it's cheap!

Yes to the gaming, no to the food.

Maybe I better save some time in between games for food, or else brown bag it.

Right across the street is a Gden Corral. But we tend to brown bag, cause it saves time and money. We eat out one meal for the weekend.

I'd also like to add my gratitude to John and the rest of HMGS for continued Communications on this issue. Looks like the WBC folks got out just in time!

Food is cheap – so is food poisoning.

TheKing3016 Sep 2015 5:44 a.m. PST

Hoping for some good news regarding the Host.

Today is the inspection. I would think it would take a few days for the results to be given tio the host, and a few days more…

We will be lucky to know Monday.

Most inspection results should/could be made on the spot.
I'd say the Host knows already, one way or another, whether they passed or failed.

TSD10116 Sep 2015 5:15 p.m. PST

It shouldn't be HMGS's concern where you sleep or what you eat. The priority should be cheap gaming space.

If you don't want to eat at the Host (who would?) then walk your butt across the street. Make and bring your own in a cooler. Can't do that? Order a pizza and have it delivered. You'd think a bunch of adults would be capable of planning their gaming day to have a reasonable dinner break for 2 nights. But no, it just gives people one more gripe to harp on despite the fact that food at the FCC is just as bad.

Razor7817 Sep 2015 4:49 a.m. PST

They may not have done the inspection yesterday:

From the local paper:

Then on Friday, an East Lampeter Township inspector was there to check the floor drains, which were blocked with grease, according to an agriculture department spokeswoman. When the township's inspector was there, an unrelated line began leaking into the ballroom.

Once the lines are opened and working, the state will do a follow up inspection to see if the 23 problems have been fixed.

"The sewer lines must be fixed and up to standard per the township and the 23 violations must be addressed before our department will allow them to begin serving food items again at the facility," said spokeswoman Brandi Hunter-Davenport.

I don't care if the kitchen is open or not because I don't eat there BUT HORROR OF HORRORS!!!

THE BAR IS ALSO CLOSED!!!!!

capncarp17 Sep 2015 7:19 a.m. PST

Say it ain't so!
Oh, well, it's BYOB, I guess.

Poniatowski18 Sep 2015 10:09 a.m. PST

All fixed now…..

Personal logo Milhouse Supporting Member of TMP28 Sep 2015 4:30 p.m. PST

And by "fixed" you mean still a backwater dump that has passed inspection and therefore ideally suited for a gaming con .
