My wife and I have been playing Brent Spivey's Havoc rules and decided to make a mini-campaign of it. We started with my Romans invading the Amazon kingdom so it's, you know, totally historical. :-p

We were learning the rules as we went, so game 1 was just about infantry:

Game 2 featured better terrain and our first use of cavalry and behemoths:

And for game 3 we went all out with magic-users, knights on flying mounts and demons:http://colony13.blogspot.com/2015/08/havoc-game-3-battle-for-temple-part-1.html

Game 4, the conclusion of the campaign, has been played and I'm working on the battle report. In game 4 we learned that the Romans weren't actually invading so much as they were shipwrecked and 2 more factions join the fray including the servants of Cthulhu…

Hope you enjoy -- for some reason Havoc doesn't seem to get a lot of press, but it's a neat rule system that has really made me rethink a lot of tenets of wargaming that I used to think were set in stone.

In particular, I love that every single combat between every single figure contains meaningful decisions that keep you involved in the game and make you care about what your troops are going through.

Havoc gives a really narrative focus – you're not just fighting the battle, you are telling the story of the battle. And that's what finally sold us on this set of rules (For comparison, LoTR came in 2nd and we also tried Song of Blades and Warhammer).

Enjoy!
