To commemorate Battle of Britain Day on the 15th, Channel 4 has a documentary "The Day the war was won."

Goosebump time – Ground crew member remembering how young the pilots were, story the Hurricane pilot who rammed a Dornier to stop it reaching Buckingham Palace

It will be on 4 On Demand later, but don't know ifyou can get it outside UK

Probably not, sadly.

There was an interesting movie on the other night here though, "Went the day well", or some combination of that, about a small village in the UK taken over by Germans, posing as British troops on a weekend exercise.

Missed the first couple of minutes of the movie, so am not sure how they supposedly got into the country, but they arrived in the village in lorries, and full British uniforms, with proper weapons and kit for the home troops.

They went around to the citizens asking for help with billeting the troops for the nights they were going to be there.

All seemed to go fairly well, until someone noticed a few odd things about them.

Apparently, they were there as an advanced guard to protect a radio/radar jammer that was set up to aid a larger, real German invasion to follow.

It was made in 1942, so had all the proper equipment, uniforms, and feel for the period.

Not the best movie I've ever watched, but certainly interesting fodder for a possible, hypothetical scenario, and you only need one army to game it (plus of course, some civilians as well, to complicate things for both sides).

I would say you started "Went the Day Well" at the start – it begins with the fake British infantry motoring to the village. It is a classic.

Developed some skirmish level WWII games based upon that
film and also _The Eagle Has Landed_.

All of them got positive comment from those who played in
them – each ran several times over the years.

YES, I also watched that movie the other night. My only question was how did the real Brit infantry "rescuers" know who to fire on, especially after splitting their forces into attack groups. Wouldn't there have been a lot of 'friendly fire" incidents with everyone in the same uniform and Germans speaking English?

Also, there are a lot of similarities to the movie, The Eagle Has Landed.
