This is a look at the new boardgame from Lock ‘n Load , a sort of mix of ‘out of the box video and design observations. The game footprint is quite small and stacking is a division at most per hex, so the game might make a good campaign manager / scenario generator for anyone wanting to run a Gazala campaign. Agreed, excellent review. Seems rather like many other AH type games. Guessing step reduction is done by flipping the counter over, rather than placing a reduction counter under the playing piece? The campaign aspect would be why I would buy this game, with some modifications to supply and movement of small fast units as you mentioned. |

Thanks. Units flip to weaker side for first loss except the very small units (say strength 2) are single steppers. You quickly discover that the frequent losses would leave you without an army ! so retreats become important and because of that, cutting off retreats becomes important …. and yes, we are then in classic Avalon Hill world :-) Combat is mandatory between adjacent units, so you become careful as to what you 'tie up', especially if you are going to be forced into a low odds attack. This tends to reduce the number of attacks compared to what gamers might otherwise do, so i think it would work as a campaign engine for figures as it does not generate too many battles. |
