Also stopped playing Warhammer after 7th. To me 6th was the pinnacle of the game. I have downloaded the free rule set and a number of the army lists for Warhammer forces I have as well as an experimental list for Chaos Warriors that was posted on the Mantic forums. BlackKnight your post is timely. I posted on our local game store Yahoo group that I was going to show up at the store today to try out Kings of War. I am working up a 1000 point Chaos Warrior forces and a Kingdoms of Men 1000 point force to give Kings of War a try. I offered that if anyone wanted to bring their own 1000 point force I would be happy to learn with them. I agree with the majority of your review of Kings of War. While I personally liked to be able to remove figures that aspect of Kings of War does not bother me as that is an aspect of Hail Caesar. I agree that the downside to Kings of War is in terms of the background story it lacks the depth and extensive history Warhammer has generated over the many years. I too started playing with third edition Warhammer so I appreciate your perspective. However, I do not see why Warhammer converts to Kings of War could not carry on the Warhammer story line among themselves while using the Kings of War rules for the battles. And true the granularity that was for me an enjoyable aspect of Warhammer has been streamlined for faster play. Yet at this point in my war gaming hobby life I think I will be fine with that. I have a long and vested interest in seeing all the armies I have collected and painstakingly painted over the years to be able to see battle. I think Kings of War may be that venue and there appears to be a number of war gamers in my area who are of the same opinion. |

I never got into WFB but I have gotten into KoW in a big way. My primary opponent is like the author of the thread and has been playing WFB since the 1980's. He likes it as much or more than I do. Excellent review, btw. Dave |

Well my planned demo game was a bust, as I never got any response from anyone on the Yahoo group. I will try again another time. I do like what I see from reading the free rules download and think it could be a fun game system that might bring back the old fantasy war game magic. |

Just go there on a game day and set up two opposing forces, and smile as if you have a secret… |
