I came across this article (I hope it is not pop up heavy) about a 30K year old virus that was discovered. It would be good background fodder to explain a zombie/post apoc world. link |

Hey a new show for the History Channel "Ancient Pathogens" What wiped out the dinosaurs?
"IT HAD TO BE ANCIENT PATHOGENS" |

So, what wiped out the ancient aliens??? Isn't it obvious? Too much "special blend" hair product, full of alien viruses:

Ancient Aliens and Ancient Pathogens a Coincidence!?
I THINK NOT! |

Lol Anyway, I think that the premise for the Val Kilmer film "Thaw" (2009?) is about global warming waking up some of those deadly prehistoric bugs. Dan |

Although presented as a thriller/murder mystery, this was essentially the premise of 'Fortitude' on (UK)TV recently. |

On a gaming note this could lead to a good back ground for gaming, one could game the out break at an arctic research facility, and move on from there. |

Prehistoric zombie-makers … Check out The Outer Limits episode "From Within": link Episode's opening scene: link For some reason, in this next video the actors sound as if they had been inhaling helium or as if they were chipmunks: YouTube link Dan |

Yeah that could be a good start, just need to make to link from infected with a bug, to being a zombie of such. |

They already have that scenario on TNT. It's called The Last Ship. |
War Monkey | 17 Sep 2015 8:06 a.m. PST |
the Last Ship" could make for a great Zombie game, currently in the show they are fighting a super flu of sorts, I think it would be great for survivors if they had to fight zombies myself. |

I have had some time to think on this I think one could have a great game using a ship as a base for survivors, you would still need to get supplies and fuel, and have to send crews ashore to get them, one could try securing a small port as a home base as well. |

Interesting *Cacicue Caribe, that you mention the X files in your post. IIRC, this exact situation WAS in fact the backdrop of one of their better episodes. A remote polar science station drilling for core/ mineral samples from centuries long past, happen to 'bring up' more than they expect, a virus frozen deep underground. When brought up to the station the warm air revives the virus, its end effect is death, but not before causing sever emotional and in some violent reactions. And of course being a virus, its contagious. Now Im wishing I could recall the name, may have to check w a friend who has the series. lol As for "The Last Ship", I think this too could make for a great Apoc game background. With a couple of 'provided', that is. For one, that the virus in the story could only be transmitted by direct contact with an infected person or animal, i.e. a bite or scratch. Second, no one decided to toss in 'water breathing zombies' just for 'fun'. (Not). After all, for any ongoing story line, I think the characters would have to have some truely 'safe haven' they could return too. A ship, even if only a few yards from a dock could be such a haven. After all, the general rule of thumb for all zombies, is that they are surviving on 'basic' life function. As such cant use even the most simple of weapons and short of attacking in mass, and never manage to solve the problems, such as 'how to get to the food (uninfected)". This would hardly be a boring game, because being on a ship or even if you fort up in a castle, you have to venture out for food, medical supplies, etc. Lots of scenario possibilites. |
