Nicely done – what materials did you use? |

The base is DAS airclay scribed with a pointy thing. Corrugated cardboard and skewers for the roof. Panelling/windows are 12-pane mdf windows from warbases with 2 of the 'panes' cut out. |

Wow! That's really nice! Have any in progress pic? Would love to steal your method. I really like the colors in the rock work. |

I've got some WIPs, not sure how useful they are, though:

Very useful to me at lease . Did you scribed the Clay before or after it dried? I plan to use your method for my castle base since I'm currently using a hot knife on the styrofoam and don't like the results. Thanks for posting |

I did it after the clay had dried. The point dragged a bit when the clay was wet. |

What brand and colors did you use for the rocks? The rock work is so realistic looking. |

The colours are just Vallejos. Various browns and greys mostly mixed. Individual stones are painted in random fashion until they're all coloured, then the whole is given a dark brown wash. In hindsight it's a little too dark, so I think it would be better to: 1 Paint the clay a sand colour 2 Cut the stonework 3 Give the whole thing a dark brown wash to colour the cracks 4 Paint the individual stones 5 Final brown wash to blend the colours together. With Google Earth you can 'walk' around Himeji castle in streetview and get a good close up look at the stonework for inspiration. |
