Great to see it completed. Impressive paint job on figures & truck. That's some fearsome firepower there, I wouldn't like to be on the receiving end !

Superbly finished.

Oh neat. I've never seen that double drilling mount before. Very nice conversion and painting.
Do you know where the photo was taken?

PiersBrand10 Sep 2015 1:57 a.m. PST

Taken during the retreat from France into Belgium or Holland.

I dont know if it was just transporting the Drillings for emplacement or in use as a gun platform, but it features in a series of pictures of various retreating trucks, so I do wonder if it was used as an ad-hoc convoy protection vehicle to give some defence against Allied air attacks.

Certainly the picture doesnt seem to be a unit transporting Drillings to be fitted somewhere else, so Im going with the 'dakka-dakka-dakka' option as Im a wargamer! ;)

How would this be used in a game?

PiersBrand10 Sep 2015 4:54 a.m. PST

Well its gonna be a flak asset.

So it will be sat at the back, well away from enemy ground troops, watching the skies.

Pretty much used in the same way I use any flak vehicle in a game.

Im also working on a 'lite & fun' scenario with a long column of vehicles retreating, and the German players have to get off the table, while the other players get a choice of ground attack plane each and score points based on what they take out…

Just a thought but there was an organisational table for a platoon with three 3-tonners, each mounting a single drilling. I wondered for a long time where it fitted in, then found it was just an add on to the Supply Coy for the Panther Bn in the weird and wonderful Panzer Brigades.
