Hi Guys, Looking to start collecting 28mm WWII and would like some suggestions on the best companies to purchase figures? I am primarily looking for Americans, Germans, and Russians. |

Depends on what part of the war. Late war is a little easier. Crusader and Artizan for Americans. Artizan is retooling their Germans – you can get the guys in camo now but the heer in tunics and the guys in sturmartillerie wraps are being remade (and we can't wait). Crusader does early Germans. Crusader makes nice Soviets. |

Battle Honors makes nice everything. Berlin or bust figures are good but a bit thicker looking. Warlord Games has some all plastic multipart kits that are popular too. |

If you don't mind plastics, the 40 man Russian pack from Warlord is pretty good. It's enough to create a platoon of three sections plus have some support options like a sniper, AT rifle dude, or tank hunter team with grenades and molotov cocktails. On the other hand, I'm disappointed with the Germans but I have the earlier packs. I understand that they have been redone but I don't know how they've changed. The earlier packs have limited poses and the rifles are very fragile. |

I'm not keen on the Warlord plastics. I started doing some Soviets with them and then switched to metal. Their early war Germans *are* really nice. The late war Germans are not – the newest sets being sculpted without shoulder boards which seems like an egregious oversight. |

Black Tree Design make some nice Russians and there are frequent sales, just keep an eye out on their Facebook page. I think it's a German sale at the moment. Their American infantry look really nice too based on photos. I've ordered some but still waiting for them to arrive. I ordered just over a week ago when the US figures were on sale. But my main go to ranges are Artizan and Crusader. Google under images and you can see a lot of beautifully painted versions of them. All of these ranges are large stocky 28mm but that's my preference. I do add a few Warlord games figures now and again but they tend to be a little smaller. Size of figure isn't too much of a problem but if the weapons differ in size it looks a little odd so my Warlord are often gun crews. I don't like the Warlord plastics that much but the plastic Russians are quite nice though I have had a couple of weapons break the variety of figures you can achieve with plastics is impressive. I tend to take the attitude that if I'm spending a lot of time painting a figure (I enjoy painting so put a lot of effort into them) I don't mind paying more for metal figures. |
