When you are buying a game, how much does the author/designers matter? IF you factor it in, when buying games, what is the primary motivator for you? A: They made other games I liked. B: I like their general philosophy on gaming. C: They seem like an expert in the period or topic. D: They seem like a cool person. E: Other factors. |

I've played with a couple well-known designers who turned out to be total jerks. I refuse to buy their games. Ymmv |

A and B and a bit of C. Never meet your heroes ! |

A and B – generally I only buy rules after seeing reviews and ideally getting a look at a display copy, but if Toofatlardies, Peter Pig or Neil Thomas put out something on a period that interests me, I'm pretty likely to just snap it up…. |

A and B. NOT C – I generally don't know their expertise in the history and if I liked their previous games then I don't care.
D – I have a couple of games that I love whose author I would not care to ever be around. |

A and/or B All your heroes should be dead so they cannot embarrass you by speaking/doing something insufferably stupid. |

If I have even a vague interest in a period that Frank Chadwick writes rules for, I'll likely buy it. |

All your heroes should be dead so they cannot embarrass you by speaking/doing something insufferably stupid. (Makes note to fake his death after getting a sufficient number of rules to market …) |

"All your heroes should be dead so they cannot embarrass you by speaking/doing something insufferably stupid." I think alot of people growing up in the 80s now regret not killing Tom Cruise, too late now. |

Gunfreak – you know, even though he's nuts, I still dig Tom Cruise :) Though I avoid ever watching him outside his movies so that helps. |

Tom Cruise has two kinds of movies. First is the competition movies which I can not stand (Top Gun, Cocktail, Days of Boredom) and then his others which are usually very good (Born on the Fourth of July, Minority Report, Rain Man). As for the guy himself, he is a nutter. |
