Surely there is some way to get the site to be blocked by google instead of taking ti down, or removing your ID'ing data connecting you to the site.

Simo Hayha07 Sep 2015 12:20 p.m. PST

Why would you want to work for a place that doesn't respect your hobby anyway?

GROSSMAN07 Sep 2015 12:34 p.m. PST

Good luck with the job search Tim. It's a shame you have to go through that.

normsmith07 Sep 2015 12:37 p.m. PST

Tim, I have always enjoyed your site, but fully understand your decision, as a lot of employers these days do vet the web as part of their recruitment process.

Good luck with the job hunting.

Tim;
Could you please wait until Midnight on the 8th, going into the 9th, so I could save so much of your lovely stuff.

I've often visited your site when I needed inspiration, and always found something there.

As a person not much younger than you, I do appreciate your situation. I am finally getting an interview on Thursday after almost a hundred resumes and lots of months of searching.

Being in the US does have some benefits, there.

Maple Leaf Up, though!

Truly tragic, not only for you, but for us as well, I've enjoyed your site for years (particulaly as an unreconstructed crossfire fan), the silver lining in all this, is that I'm already looking forwards to your New site which you can set up once you settle in at a new job, so I know everyone here wishes you all the best.

Syrinx007 Sep 2015 2:20 p.m. PST

Good luck with the job hunt Tim.

If I google my name, I get a magician in Nashville, Tn. Not me. If they ask, tell them that it must be somebody with the same name.

Never lie in an interview.

If I google my name I get all sorts of stuff. Some of it is me. A lot isn't.

I think if it feels right to you to suspend your web page then you should do that – absolutely and no quibble! I think it's a pity to have to "hide" a pretty harmless hobby, but I wouldn't try to dissuade you.

Is it the first hit on other people's machines though ? Google will have stored your searches and will prioritise the order it lists sites in. Just a thought.

Damn Tim, that sucks…
I've gotten SO many great tips & just hours & hours of just pure enjoyment from you/this site. PLEASE look for a way to stay :( or PLEASE let us know when you can get back online. Man, this blows. We finally get a decent price per gallon of gas, a bunch of bigwigs complain about not being rich enough so folks like you (and so many others, it's already happened to me) get laid off. It aint right…
Good Luck on the job search & hang in there.
I'll miss ya, but look forward to hearing good news from ya soon
Peter

Sad to hear this Tim, but I completely understand your thinking. I remember the site as one of the first places I explored at length when I was first introduced to the WW2 side of the hobby maybe 10 years ago and I frequented it many many times since for education, entertainment and inspiration all in equal measure.

Hopefully it will eventually force you to start an even larger better site in the future ;)

Thanks for the memories as they say :)

Very often the only other choice is not to work.

Never lie in an interview.

+1 that comment.

Should you ever have a falling out – and they've discovered by then about the lie – then they just have evidence of dishonesty as well as whatever else is a problem.

Calgary here. Not in the oilpatch but laid off after 24 years with the same company. Things are hard and not looking good.I have a bunch of stuff to sell but NOT my minis…yet!

pnguyenho07 Sep 2015 8:26 p.m. PST

That's too bad, Tim. Because of your website, I bought Crossfire rules when getting back into wargaming 15 years ago.

Sorry to hear that, Tim. Your 28mm Firefly is responsible for keeping me away from that scale of figures for quite a few years (in a good, funny way). Once you see something like that, it just can't be unseen.

Good luck with your job search Tim, and I'm sorry your site is going.

Sorry to hear you are closing your blog. In response to what you have said I did a google search on both variations of my name and came up with a few results. My Google account lead to a Youtube account which listed my favourites. Scary how much information is available online. Needless to say I did a bit of editing.
I'm 54 so if I lost my job I'd struggle to find well paid work again. I constantly have to edit what I write on Facebook as it could reflect on my job. Hopefully my gaming will look like a positive aspect if I do have to find work.

Wow, you should have talked to a web expert first: There are two different ways to keep Google from indexing your site, the robots.txt file and the robots meta tag.

Here's a generator for the first: link

And here's Google's thing about how to use the second to take yourself out of search: link

Like many others, I've enjoyed your site a great deal.

Good luck in your job search Tim. Real life comes first, and your hobby should be a relaxation for you, not a source of additional stress.

Weasel08 Sep 2015 7:48 a.m. PST

Well, hope everything works out for you mate.

svsavory08 Sep 2015 8:53 a.m. PST

Sorry to hear this. So much lovely eye candy on your site. Good luck on landing a new job!

Who asked this joker08 Sep 2015 9:14 a.m. PST

I'm just wondering Tim, is there anything on the site that would cast you in a bad light to others? I'm guessing not. So why not just go with it?

Sorry to see it go but I am sure you've thought this out. Good luck with your job hunt. I hope you find something good soon!

Good luck Tim. Your site was one of the first ones I encountered when I expanded my gaming from board games to minis in the early 2000s. I was specifically looking for Bocage info. Your site came up and I spent a lot of time going through it. Thanks for sharing all of it with us and I hope you can and do get it back up and running. Again, good luck!
Mike
