Can anyone recommend the two-volume AWI campaign set of Orbats and battles written by Greg Novak. Basically, are they worth it! |

Yes. In many ways they are the definitive source, particularly for American OoBs. Greg spent many summers in the U.S. army archives digging through returns and orderly books to find the information. |

They are essential. He was working on a third edition when he died. |

They are brilliant and highly recommended as the other folks have said. One thing to keep an eye on though. When they were first printed, there were some that had some missing pages which were scattered in other parts of, I think, Volume 1. I believe the Old Glory folks fixed that with the next printings, but you might want to check with whomever you plan to purchase before buying. I have one of the editions with the printing errors. Hope this helps. Erik |

I own these books and like them, but there are plenty of typographical errors. Another printing error occurs in the bibliography at the end of volume 2: it abruptly ends with the "H" authors, and then is followed by four blank pages. I really admire the work that went into these books, but they're undercut by some poor production work. (I'm guessing I own the earlier editions with the problems.) I'd recommend them, but would compare their information with other sources whenever possible. Jeff |

Copies I have are full of typos and poor production. But still worth the value in information that is in them. |

I wonder why they don't come out with a new and cleaned up edition? |

Probably too much stock to get rid of first. As I said, Greg was working on a 3rd edition, and had a fair amount of new info he wanted to add. If someone who knew him (I didn't really, but we corresponded a few times) could get hold of his papers, I'm sure TMP could put together a team capable of updating the existing version in his honour. |

yes, I have both volumes. SM, sorry we never got the 3rd volume. The only area that is lacking are the Spanish Operations in America and Franco-Spanish operations in Europe plus the British invasion of Central America. |
