Can never have enough opportunities to see that game grin

Some of the best modeled streams I've seen in wargaming. Looks like a painted bottom of varying shades with some sort of water effect/gloss stipled over it? Very well done.

Glad you enjoyed it boys!. (smile)

Erg. I would do Naps in 1/72 if there was a single good line of French infantry. Unfortunately it doesn't exist. Great Russians, some Ok Austrians, but not a single good looking line of French infantry.

Have you tried with Italeri or Hat or Strelets?

I think forwardmarchstudios is meaning Bardin uniformed French infantry.

He is correct there are none in 1/72 plastic (HaT has them on the drawing board). At least some of my French are metals dressed in the Bardin regulation.

Agreed. The crushing lack of a really decent French infantry set is the most baffling marketing decision ever in toy soldier land. HaT do a set of pre-Bardin but it is a bit chunky. I think "we" had high hopes for Zvezda but they gave up with the finishing post in sight.

The new much anticipated HaT set cannot come soon enough

You know what, I have to apologize.
I forgot all about Italeri box 6066, which are absolutely acceptable. Actually quite good. I'd forgot about them until last night when I accidentally stumbled up some of them painted and based up really nicely in a firing line formation, three ranks deep on what looked like a 60mm square base. I was quite impressed. Also that box comes with some good, and accurate, charging and marching poses.
So, I stand corrected. Although they are 1813-1815, which is an interesting period, but it would be nice to be able to do 1809…
Still, I'm going to order a box or two of them today to try out.
I'm mostly getting into plastics because of this guys work:

Perry on right, Italeri samurai on left. Can't even tell the difference except for size. I just got two boxes of this code last night and it really blew my mind how good the sculpts for those are. Painting those is going to be a lot of fun…especially after several years of 15s!

Welcome to the fold. There are some great 1/72 out there, and some real dogs. But zvezda and later HaT are generally pretty tasty. And some guys work miracles with the paintwork. They are a matter of taste, but I would never change from my, that I augment with some metals and resins (Franznap especially)

Marc the plastics fan06 Sep 2015 9:47 a.m. PST

That Italeri set is nice. The missing chins is odd, but I still like them. I have seen them with Zvezda voltigeur heads and they look even better

Still waiting for the HaT marching French though

Apparently Waterloo coming out with some marching French in near future
Im excited to get my hands on the Zvezda french foot arty box, actually. Im a big fan of games with all the extras on the table. Thatd be the limber, caisson and 12 horses between them! Debating how Im going to paint the naps- probably a block/dip method. A good dip should protect thd paint job.

MarcTPF- I could't find it. Do you have a link?
Just sprayed the samurai down- hmm. Paint does seem to come off a bit. I doused it down with some watered down Tacky Glue after it was sprayed, that seems to be an accepted tactic in fixing it. We'll see how it goes!

As an aside, out of the over 2000 figures used in our Ligny game, 4-5 muskets needed re-touching afterwards. Flaking paint is a factor of poor prep or cheap paint.

There are several ways of preparing plastic figures for painting. My way:

- wash in hot, soapy water (use vinegar for some manufacturers who seem to use industrial strength mould release agent).

- undercoat in a good matte paint ( I use the Vallejo white primer)

- after painting, lightly spray with matte Krylon clear spray.

It works.
