can anyone tell me what the figures in brackets at the end of the sentences mean, I've completly forgotten, I think it may be squadron/companys and actual men but not sure

6th Young Guard Foot Battery (3/86)
1/24th Légère Regiment (13/519)
4/29th Chasseur à Cheval Regiment (9/112/21/109)

TIA

For Artillery its Guns and Men

Officers/men. Not sure why one squadron of the 29th would have two sets of numbers.

The Emperors Own03 Sep 2015 6:20 a.m. PST

Officers Mounts, Troops Mounts

Old Smokie03 Sep 2015 6:57 a.m. PST

thanks all,

the 4/29th Chasseur à Cheval is it mounts first then oficers or the other way round

RittervonBek03 Sep 2015 8:55 a.m. PST

Humans then horses.

15th Hussar03 Sep 2015 9:39 a.m. PST

It's different on trains though:

Eight horses/40 men.

9 officers 112 other ranks 21 officer mounts 109 other rank mounts.
The artillery figures, in the example above, would be officers and then other ranks – these numbers probably omit the train, which would be itemized separately.

Marshall Vorwarts03 Sep 2015 3:55 p.m. PST

Yes it would be normal to have officers have two mounts

The Emperors Own03 Sep 2015 10:02 p.m. PST

yes

I don't think the artillery is guns then men, but rather officers then men.
