Does anyone know of a museum in the south of England that has a 3 bar pot helmet (ironsides) that i can go and see?
I wanted to get some pictures of a genuine article rather Than a re-enatcors one?

thank you

Littlecote House, Wiltshire. A fine collection. I've not been for years but hopefully it's still open to the public.

Hi both,

apparently Littlecote sold up and the collection's gone to the Royal Armouries in Leeds, see here link

Not sure where else to suggest, should be plenty about but nothing comes to mind offhand. Perhaps the Tower of London? Though iirc they generally show the spangliest bits.

Martin,

The National Army Museum has one, but the museum is closed until next year! However, I just went on their website and under collections I found a series of pictures of their acquisition number 1996-04-219-1 which is described as an English pot helmet c 1640. I came across it via their piece on great battles, and then Naseby. One of the pictures illustrated it. I hope this helps,.

Try talking to the Tower, we got our hands on an ECW musket by asking.

Alnwick Castle is lifting with them perhaps worth a look at their website.

Sorry Martin I was not being clear. There are many of the helmets on display at Alnwick castle-its open to the public. Perhaps if you contact them someone might be able to send you a photograph.

Try Google. There's an image of a English triple-barred pot in the York museum I came across the other day.

Martin – I don't know if this will be helpful to you but here are a couple of pics of a helmet I acquired near forty years ago:

I am no authority nor do I have any provenance for this piece. I believe it to be a decent representative of what you are looking for BUT belief is not data.

Well, presumably that would be the new RoF rules.
I like small area gaming. I really like grids.
So Git er done – I'm ready to push the order button :-)
