There are plenty of vikings and Saxon in 1/72… which 1/72 kits could I sneak in as welsh, Scots and irish? I want to run a campaign, and I want to do it in 1/72, the only problem is that there are really only 2 factions in 1/72. I want to set the campaign some time around 980 ce or so. Any help will be appreciated greatly Thanks Austin |

It is an interesting period. If you want to open the field a bit I would push the time period around 50 years to the 1040's or so and look east. Depending on how much of a picker of nits you are you can slide between Dark Age and Medieval sets: link Vikings become Kievan Rus Saxons become Poles, Balts, Slavs etc. Steppe people Byzantines Khazars But then again that is my preference, your mileage may vary. :-) |

An eastern campaign would be awesome! More factions, more variation. I don't know a lot about the east… or what could sub as what, but you've given me a good start Thanks Austin |

You can have more than one Saxon & Viking faction, too. Not a lot of unity in the Dark Ages. Or, go a little later & add Normans: lots of these & the Strelets' ones are amongst their best product. |

"You can have more than one Saxon & Viking faction, too." Indeed. Maybe have each player play a Saxon kingdom AND a pagan faction, or adapt this: link Offhand I can imagine a campaign with say 3 or more players, each playing a Saxon Kingdom. Each turn the players bid for control of one of the pagan armies (Viking, Scots/Picts, Irish) and then choose a kingdom to raid. Successfully repelling a raid gives you Prestige, which is used for bidding during each turn. |

Aapch, check out Day of Battle dot com. Not 100% sure the rules go back far enough for you, but the mechanics are pretty cool in that faction leaders would progress (or not?) as the campaign unfolded. Bob |

I assume you've already checked out PlasticSoldierReview. Don't think the native Irish changed much over the next hundred years so you could find some suitable figures in the HYW era. |

Use Picts for early Welsh, Scots and Irish. Medieval peasants from Airfix Robin Hood will worlk for Welsh, probably. |
