Thanks Victor – I also heard from someone else that 2nd edition was the way to go |

I would say that 1st Ed has the best story and background along with a great sense of humour while 2nd had a better rule system. Not played 3rd. I am interested in seeing what happens with Zweihander which is said to be a free set of rules based on the warhammer world. link |

I love 2nd, though some books are hard to find, if you are trying to go all out. luckily, the basic books, like the main book, the magic supplement and monster book aren't too bad. I have run some great games from those three. the 1st edition book is great, and im glad I have one. I use it for treasure tables, cool maps of buildings, and general old school roleplay inspiration. but im a sucker for black and white line art, and the old book smell. my buddy ran 3rd, and we had a lot of fun. it requires a lot more components (cards, tokens, etc) and is more mechanics driven, which is a turnoff for me, but, like nearly any RPG, the right group of friends and a decent game master can make it fun. |

Second edition is great but I prefer the magic system of the first edition (Just a personal preference). Didn't care much for the idea of colour magic. If you can get the Enemy Within campaign it's a lot of fun. |

1st edition, because I own every supplement except Lichmaster (I WILL FIND ONE!) but then I haven't seen any other version so I might be biased. |

I bought WFRP 1e but never played it. When 2e rolled around, I played it a little and found it a fun and straightforward system. I always here people pining for the ambiance of 1e though… I'm not sure if that is enough to make me try 1e. Flipping through the rulebook, I find it a bit confusing. Maybe it's just one of those things that was easier to pick up when you were younger. |

I do like 2e but good luck trying to find reasonable condition books for a reasonable price. The 3e has some very innovative ideas such as the special dice that triggers more narrative imagination from the GM (wow, you got that roll, so lemme see, your sword slash not only takes off his hand but the Amulet of Heinrich, which he was holding, flies away from his severed hand into your hand!) The enemy within is a great campaign and has been updated with lots of nice chrome for 3e. Most of the great mini scenarios from the old Wyrdstone magazine, are easily adaptable to 3e. Good luck and háček fun rping in a very fun grim dark environment. |
