At Dunsfold Wings and Wheels this weekend, there was a stunning 1 minute silence held in memory of those who died at Shoreham.

It was a remarkable moment.

One minute there was the humm of idling diesel engines from the multitude of military vehicles present, the hum of aircraft in the distance, children laughing and playing around the family areas, and the next I swear the whole airfield went completely silent. Even the birds seemed to stop singing.

In the far distance you got a soft buzz of something approaching, as as the commentary re-started you got this…

I was there on the Sunday and I'm told it was quieter than last year. Vulcan XH 558 had to turn back due to bad weather, so we didn't get the flyby that was to be the highlight of the day for me.

I was there on the Sunday too. We had gone especially to see XH558, is this is her last flying year; it was very disappointing when she turned back (although the Hawk runs were impressive!) as I wanted to show my son a delta with four Olympus engines in reheat – closest he will get to Concorde, that his grandad used to fly…

Just how close together were the Spitfire and Mustang??!!

I know! Brilliant display. The sound of the Merlin and the whine of the gunports always makes my hair stand on end. The chaps popping balloons were good too.

We went for the Vulcan too. My Dad and I paid to keep her flying the last couple of years, so wanted to see our rivet in the air!

Had a nice chat with the chap sat on top of his T-34 as well. Apparently it was present at the fall of Berlin and later made it's way to Serbia. Had numerous battle scars, and had been converted to take surplus US .50 Cal's instead of DsHK mounts.

I have a video of the Spit and Mustang together. I'll put up a link. You couldn't have been more than 100 yards from me, we were sat at that end, not far from the T-34!
