whoever came up with this bright idea to keep cool: link |

Really? Yet another example of the current "they should have thought about something else because this offends me (but I can't be bothered to offer an alternative idea)" culture… |

Excuse the foul language but THAT IS ED UP! |

Practically every patio in Phoenix has them, including bars and restaurants. I've never heard anyone ever compare them to death camp showers, even the ones that are rigged like those in the photo. I think the staff meant well, and I think the comparison of the misters and the gas chambers is tenuous at best. |
emckinney | 31 Aug 2015 10:18 p.m. PST |
The gas chambers were actually disguised as showers, to help keep the victims docile. That's what makes this … well, people who were there would probably be completely freaked out. |

I looked a little into this story and it seems this Meyer (Meir maybe, saw it spelled both ways) Bolka guy is the one who took the pictures, filed the complaint with Auschwitz staff AND is the one who reported it to the news via his blog, Twitter and through interviews. I read the story from several different sources and Bolka is the ONLY one quoted every time and the ONLY one who talked to staff, although according to him multitudes were offended. Yeah right. I will go out on a limb here and say that he is a professional agitator who walks around in a state of constant offense. Paul |

Last time I looked the Nazi Death camps didn't have open air showers. Summers over here in Hungary are brutal, high 30's with zero breeze and high humidity, I imagine its similar in Poland. A mister is a welcome sight. Would a bathroom store opening nearby also cause these knee jerk reactions? Its about as related to the gas chambers as these misters are. Capt Crunch, I think you are right on the money with your assumption. |

Yep, the Cap is right on it. Downside of the Internet is that every idiot and PITA has a voice that gets heard. |
Razor78 | 01 Sep 2015 4:13 a.m. PST |
All the people using them to cool off don't look too offended. |
nazrat | 01 Sep 2015 6:13 a.m. PST |
I could see where this possibly could cause offense, but as is said above there are loads of people using them and they look absolutely nothing like the actual showers used. Much ado about nothing by what looks to be ONE "offended" person. |

I've seen variations on this at sporting events, concert venues, recreational parks (Disney, Hershey Park), and other similar places. Hardly any of them were emitting poison gas. The irony is that the people running the parks/tourist attractions are using these devices to keep people comfortable and prevent heat related problems. One would think that the people running the Auschwitz tourist site should be commended for thinking about the well being of the guests at their venue. Of course they could always turn off and remove the cool mist devices and let the visitors do without. Then when some poor guest passes out from heat exhaustion, some bimbo could write an article about how Auschwitz has started mistreating its "guests" again. |

A rather grim place to be going to on a holiday. |

Misters are quite common in public places such as sidewalk cafes in Croatia. I doubt I'd have given the one at Auschwitz a second thought. |
Inkpaduta | 02 Sep 2015 10:25 a.m. PST |
Yes you see them at sports events, Phoenix ect. BUT, this was at a Concentration Camp where people were put to death by using "showers." Tell me you don't find that just a little wrong. |

I thought the story was made up. It does seem a bit on the nose, but then, I am part of the evil PC brigade that is coming to do something or other, so what do I know? |

A rather grim place to be going to on a holiday. You'd be surprised. Apparently David Irving is leading group tours. Tickets are going fast… link |

People who want to be offended, will always find something to be offended about. |

Slightly macabre if you ask me. Besides when visiting such a place a little suffering might be good for the visitor. |

That does look a bit odd. But then – going around Dachau this summer there were people who were clearly just on a nice family day out: picnics, balls for a quick kick-around, few frizbees. Selfies by the gate ("arbeit macht frei") in the Gestapo reception block. Not everyone, but a noticable minority. I was surprised. Maybe I shouldn't have been. |
