Hello chaps and chapettes. After much deliberation, I have decided to bite the bullet and start an actual army. This comes after years of painting the odd figures here and there. I have decided on british in the peninsular war in 28mm. I plan to use a mixture of warlord and perry plastics (possibly dipping into victrix later on for variety). As this is the first time I have taken on a major project, I would appreciate any help that you experienced hobbyists can offer. Advice and criticism will be welcome when I post pictures of my work later on. For now I'm in the research phase and have decided that I will base my force on pictons 3rd division as this has a nice mix of infantry. Something I am struggling to find is info on all of the facing colours and so if anyone has any idea of a resource I can use to find this out, that'd be great. Looking forward to hearing from you all. Paddy |

I believe that the composition of the 'Fighting Third' varied over time. Have you fixed on a specific campaign and rules set? |

Basing it on it's composition at Vitoria. I should have specified. At the moment I am leaning towards black powder as it is used at a local gaming club. Thankyou |

45th – dark green. 88th – yellow 74th – White 60th – red. 5th – gosling green 83rd – yellow 87th – green 94th – green. Can't remember the Portuguese 9th and 21st uniforms. |

Very helpful. Thank you Edwulf |

The 60th were from the 5th Bn so therefore were Rifles. As far as I am aware (and have painted accordingly) the Portuguese 9th Line had blue collar, yellow cuffs and yellow piping. The 21st Line had yellow collar, cuffs and piping. |

GMB do some very nice flags for these btw. |

I'd second the GMB recommendation, but it's always worth going around the edge with a dab of paint or felt tip, to take away the white. Black Powder is also a fine set of rules, in my opinion. |

The Portuguese uniform reference Artilleryman gives for the 9th and 21st is correct. I agree that the GMB flags are superb and even better with the white edges painted in. At one stage I'm fairly sure there was a Cacadore battalion present but I'm not sure which one. Also there was a Portuguese artillery battery attached. If anybody knows if these were 6 or 9lb guns it would be great to know. Gosling green is thought to have been a light olive yellow green. |

Caçadores were probably the 12th. I use Howard Hues lichen green for Gosling, closest I have found. |

2 cacadore Battalions served in the 3rd though not at the same time. The 12th and I think the 11th. And yes sorry. 60th wore a rifle uniform with red facings. |
