Hello, If you were going to choose an area of study, would it be the American Revolution or World War One? |
GROSSMAN | 31 Aug 2015 7:55 a.m. PST |
Go AWI. Great history and you will learn more things that are incorrect about our history that you could have ever guessed. |
gamedad25 | 31 Aug 2015 7:59 a.m. PST |
+1 AWI It amazed me how much there was to learn, relearn, and unlearn. |
Heisler | 31 Aug 2015 8:03 a.m. PST |
AWI and don't forget to delve a little deeper into the roots of it all in the FIW. |

American Revolution. The more you study WWI, the more you will despair for the human race. |

AWI, and what Heisler said. |

WW1: wide variety of combat environments: a war of movement in August 1914 at least, East Front, West Front 1915-17, West Front 1918, Lawrence of Arabia, the Ottoman Empire, German East Africa, Italian Front; I haven't mentioned Air or Naval operations yet… It's a much, much bigger topic than AR. Which might be a reason not to choose it, of course. |

Which ever one interests you more? :-) |

If I lived in Europe and could travel battefields easily, WWI. If not I would choose AWI. Both had connections to a global conflict, but the AWI would have greater ramifications to my country, the USA. |

@historygamer, well, there is that. |

AWI all the way for me, loads of lovely uniforms and lots of battles ranging from small to decent size. |

It probably depends where you live. The Great War all the way here. I did the AWI at school 40 years ago, and that was quite sufficient. |

Oh, you mean I have to choose… Ok, yes and yes. |

AWI. From raids on settlements to attacks on forts, from small battles to full scale battles to battles in the islands. Indians, civilians, Loyalists, American troops, British troops, German Troops, French Troops, Spanish Troops. Fighting in the east, south, Midwest, and Canada. Uniforms from the Colorful, to the Indians, militia and frontiersmen. Formal fighting to skirmishing. What's not to like??? |
Saber6 | 31 Aug 2015 11:32 a.m. PST |
AWI. After 1914, the armies all start to look the same. |

It doesn't matter which war I would want to focus on. What matters is what war YOU want to focus on. I am doing both. |

Neither. Go with the Seven Years War. |

Seven Years War = the REAL World War One? |
nevinsrip | 31 Aug 2015 8:19 p.m. PST |
Another vote for AWI. Endlessly fascinating. |

Area of study? Why are you asking the question? Purely for wargaming purposes? |
daler240D | 01 Sep 2015 7:41 a.m. PST |
Depends on the scale. Uniforms (AWI) vs equipment(WWI) is really the distinction as far as visual aspects. |
vtsaogames | 01 Sep 2015 9:02 a.m. PST |
Do you prefer poison gas or burning settlements? |
Frederick | 01 Sep 2015 9:48 a.m. PST |
For me WWI – especially some of the non-Western front action like the Middle East and Africa It really depends on what your likes are as well as what type of history you enjoy |

Hello, I published some articles on the AWI and was involved in reenacting. But I recently visited the trench system in PA that the WWI reenactors use and found it fascinating. I also like how WWI develops and the change in technology and tactics. I would like to write piece on the Battle of Cantigny. |
45thdiv | 02 Sep 2015 9:46 a.m. PST |
Where is that trench system in PA? Any website? |

10thMountain Not quite sure why you are asking. If it is just for the sake of the thing – then do what interests you (which looks like WW! at present). If it is for some academic/course requirement then do what you think you can get the best points/score at. FWIW I 'study' the AWI AND WW1 but in different ways and for different reasons and entirely unconnected to any academic treadmill and drudgery. |
