Last week our club finished the two-day Battle of Aspern-Essling using the new Blucher rules. We ran this in 6mm and it looked fantastic at this scale. The AAR we posted includes a quick terrain tutorial on how I made a custom Danube River section with silicone caulk. The river was a great centerpiece!

Nice looking game! Pacing and random arrivals is always a problem with Aspern-Essling. I'm curious – how did the skewed (doubled) weapon ranges assumed by the rules affect the historical flow of events? It looks like a bit of a scrum, as Aspern-Essling usually is, so perhaps it didn't play into the game that much? I'm surprised the villages aren't bigger – did you think they were tough enough to act as defensive linchpins with these rules?

Cheers,

Christopher

The French were pretty much doomed by the bridge failure. Their inability (and very bad luck) to get it up and running kept their reinforcements bottled up for too long. The weapon ranges did not seem to be an issue--most of the fighting was close combat anyway. The battlefield was so crowded and tight that artillery had little room to fire. I do think the towns could have been upgraded to be a bit tougher than +1 combat die. But even so, a single French brigade somehow held Essling for almost the entire battle, often battling against multiple Austrian brigades at once.

That's quite an impressive Danube you have there.

Interesting. I have been curious about this rule set.
Currently trying to figure out a good basing system for 6mm as I want to be able to do a range of systems with the same figures (but also have a decent amount of figures on the base to get the 'look' right).
I am correct in thinking that there is not much of a basing size.
