The Assault Group sells what looks to be a middle-aged Henry VIII along with the rest of its Early Tudor line. Their army pack for the line lists the line covering 1544-1558 (a pretty narrow span). Would all of these figures be unacceptable for Flodden, and indeed for all of Henry's early reign? Thanks in advance.

Yes, they would not be accurate for the early part of the reign.

Interesting. The whole line? Looking at Dixon's "Flodden 1513", some of the Dixon models resemble the TAG models in terms of headgear.

Would Redoubt's Henry VIII figures be appropriate at all for Henry's early reign?

If you look at Redoubt's English Archers and Billmen, they are designed specifically for the early part of the reign, especially the Flodden/Spurs period. Those listed as "English Infantry" are for later, in particular the Enterprise of Boulogne.

TAG launched the line with an initial focus on the later period, with the intention of doing the early period at some future date.

Interesting. Thanks very much.

What are some main features I can pick out in order to differentiate the two eras? Is it headgear or something else?

Certain styles of headgear (both caps and helmets) can vary. Some fall out of fashion over the years, while others either don't exist or don't become popular until later. The same can be said for clothing and, to a lesser extent, armor.

enfant perdus,

I am about to acquire a couple of Henrician armies, a mix of early and late according to the vendors, and would appreciate your help identifying which can be used for which. Would it be ok for me to email you as well?

Super Max; yes happy to help.

Which lines are your figures coming from Supercilius Maximus and which scale if I may ask?

Supercilius Maximus02 Sep 2015 3:36 a.m. PST

@ enfant perdus – Thank you; e-mail sent.

@ jeeves – Very retro: both armies are 15mm Minifigs (2nd Generation) which I hope to augment with the occasional ebay purchase, and some of the Asgard "Renaissance" range which were sculpted by the same man after he left Minfigs and which match perfectly. The purchases should leave me with a very good late Henrician army, and the basis of a small early Henrician – both for FoG:R. Subject to E-P's input, I'm also hoping to squeeze enough out of the late army to augment some 1580s stuff for an Elizabethan force as well.
