Excerpt from the start of the new novel is posted on StarWars.com

Man, I hope this is a 'beta version of the novel' or that someone paraphrased it extensively.

To say the least, I am not impressed with the writing style.

I would have to concur with you. If that is the actual book, it is not great. =/

I assume it is the winner in a High School writing contest.

I had little to no problem with them re-writing the post ROTJ history…

Just wish they had hired someone who could write.

I hope they do a re-write before they make it into a book much less a trilogy of books.

Here is another link about it.

"Canon"?
Hah.
We know how Star Wars treats canon.

Ew. He should stick to writing YouTube comments.

That's awful. It's like a whole novel of choppy fragmented sentences. That might work for a short story but not for a novel.

chromedog31 Aug 2015 3:04 a.m. PST

@Winston:

They treat the what-was-EU as a midden to be raided for gems amongst the kipple.

The writer's bible that the EU writers used, was first used for writers for the old role-playing-game – and some of that material slowly dribbled into "canon" anyway.

Canon/non canon doesn't matter. Only whether you enjoy the stories. My value on them is not attached to how "official" the stories are.

Ugh.

It apparently really is as bad as the excerpt. The author is sending a desperate plea on twitter for anyone to give him a decent review on amazon to counterbalance the "carnival of delight" going on there. It currently enjoys a 2.7/5 with a majority of the ratings being 1/5.

This writing style is suitable for short stories or teaser-blurbs. An entire novel? Ugh. I'm getting a headache from just a chapter or so. Was there not a more-competent writer available?

Ghostrunner09 Sep 2015 10:26 a.m. PST

I had thoughts of actually staying current with the books after they were released.

Now I'm thinking I'll buy the (used) paperbacks as I find them.

To be fair, the reviews are mixed.

But when an author insists that most of the negative reviews are just homophobic bashing, my alarm bells start to go off.
