link Above is a link to my war-gaming club's web forum where I posted an AAR of our first play of the new edition of Kings of War with pics. So far, I like these rules a lot. |

How did you aquire the rules? My FLGS claims ignorance of the 2nd edition….. |

My FLGS (GreatHall Games) buys direct from Mantic and doesn't go through a distributor (most of which are still on pre-order) to get Mantic goodies. I've already bought the army box (which includes the softcover version of the rules), and should get a unit pack of Skeleton warriors next week. Dave |

We are getting our copies through the War Store here in the US. |

War Store is probably doing the same thing GreatHall Games is, buying direct from Mantic. Both stores are in the US. Dave |

By the way,I'm having a blast with all my old metal GW goblins which I've painted in the last year. I also enjoy buying those "Safari" creatures at Michaels and various craft stores and seeing what I can do with them.No need to go high priced with this game! |

Yup, plus Reaper Bones makes some very nice inexpensive figures that can augment your army, especially for those figures Mantic hasn't released yet. Kings of War does not require you to play with their figures, even in sanctioned tournament play. Battlefront started out doing the same thing and it worked really well for them for a long time. So I was Dave's opponent in this game. I pretty much concur with his assessment in the linked report. We had a good time, and despite having never played the rules we got to a decisive conclusion in about two hours. (some of which was due to the difficulty in moving the Orc army with a limited number of movement trays) The mechanics were easy to grasp and like he said we had only two occasions were we had to look up a rule. We'll be playing again on Saturday. This time with a larger point total. So the odd point total was due to the size limitations of my WFB Chaos army. If anyone cares here is a breakdown of what we were using: Nurgle Chaos Army (counts as Kingdoms of Men) -Mounted General -Wizard with lightning bolt and heal spells -Hero on foot -Regiment of Chaos Knights (counts as Knights) -Regiment of Chaos Thugs (counts as Shieldwall infantry) -Regiment of Diseased Flagellants (counts as Berserkers) -Three Regiments of Chaos Warriors (counts as Guard Infantry) -Regiment of Trolls (Allies from Orc list) Orc Army with Goblin Allies -Krudger on Slasher -Godspeaker with fireball and heal spells -Two Regiments of Axes -Regiment of Greataxes -Regiment of Skulkers -Troop of Morax -Horde of Orclings -Regiment of Goblin Rabble -Regiment of Goblins on Fleabags -Sharpstick Thrower I think the Orc/Goblin army was a better build and if I had it all to do over again, I don't think I'd go with so many high priced infantry. It needs some more padding as well as some missile troops to soften the enemy up. (I'm already pricing some old Chaos Thug archers on Ebay to add a little shooting power!) But what do I know…. |

I played what I assume to be 2nd edition rules at ORIGINS. Had a great time, came home and bought both the boxed sets (Dwarf / Undead, Orc / Undead) buy one, get one. I just wish I wasn't such a slow painter…… Didn't realize the Hardback rules were $48. USD Thought they were more like $35 USD….. Dave |

We played a dwarf Vs dwarf game last night using 10mm figs so that we could field things like steel behemoths. (We used these)
The Invade mission saw a slow plod to the middle with some cannon fire, I got the win largely thanks to having one regiment of cavalry. |
