… To Fight In Ukraine. "There are European soldiers fighting amid the rubble of Shyrokyne in Eastern Ukraine. They shoot from half-destroyed hotels and sleep in the basements of war-ravaged homes. Artillery fire colors the hill behind the town black, and darkens the sky with gray smoke. Machine guns sputter day and night, and there is occasionally the crack of a sniper rifle as soldiers dart between abandoned houses, hotels, apartment buildings, and trenches. The pro-Ukrainian Azov Regiment and the group of Europeans fighting with them have clashed almost continuously with separatists in and around the small village of Shyrokne for months, turning this once peaceful place by the Azov Sea into a decimated frontline. The detritus of war litters the streets, as do the relics of the civilian world that once existed here—children's bicycles, beach toys, garden furniture, an old football that a soldier kicks around during a lull in the fighting…" Full article here link Amicalement Armand |

Do we think Mr Garrett and friends in the DIY 'Regt' will be subject to the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 on his attempted return to the UK, should he choose to try? |

About the same chance that all those serving Russia soldiers on 'vacation' will be charged. If they weren't there, there wouldn't be a war for Swampy and the others to fight in… |

Ukraine has been quiet and stable for 20 years. It's suffered from inherent corruption, carried over from Soviet times and so ingrained into the fabric of society that taking a bottle of vodka with you when you need some papers signed to help speed the process is considered normal There are those who have advocated change, but they themselves are actually so integrated into the whole system that and change is met with strong resistance at all levels, because it is alien, and that is scary… And they might just get hoist by their own petard. Russia has no reason to allow its citizens to vacation on Ukrainian territory (something that it has admitted is occurring). Russia has acknowledged they they are serving military personnel, but on vacation. Simple. Russia, make vacationing for the purpose of mercenary action illegal. Subject any serving military personnel found to be acting as a private mercenary subject to court martial. Russia may or may it be directly involved in what is going on, but it is certainly perpetuating it by a failure to take positive actions to prevent it, something it could very easily do. It is not in Russia's interests to have a strong, independent nation on its direct border, and directly or indirectly it is taking action (or inaction) to perpetuate that situation. Ukraine cannot fight that, neither side wants to declare war because the side that declares war will lose. But Ukraine is not strong enough to drive guiding military groups out while the border remains porous – that is a failure of border control from the Russian side. Thus Ukraine has no choice but to accept support from wherever it can be obtained, in the face of acknowledged proxy fighters on the other side. NATO is highly restricted; Ukraine is not a member, and unlikely to become one in the near future (although continued action by Russia makes the desire for that mutual defence to have increased ten fold, an action that is generating just the opposite effect from that which Russia has stated). No other nation is willing to step in directly, with a formal sovereign force, so Ukraine is forced to accept foreign mercenary aid or risk its territorial integrity be slowly eroded through attrition. Not really the actions of someone who wants to be seen as the good guys. |
