What are the terrain options for west german towns and villages…

I think you could use any WW-II European Buildings without too much trouble. Really depends on the "footprint" on the table that you want to cover

There are a number of decent choices, including those nice little wooden buildings we see in the AARs from "I Ain't Been Nuked Mum", and SabreSquadron.

Paper Terrain is having a sale right now, too.

Due to lack of funds, I'm working on some home-made paper/card buildings currently, that I've put together using MS Word. Experiments in 1/144th scale are encouraging, and I'll be upscaling (just coined a new word) them for 1/100th.

I'm making some small, rural residential ones, but am also working on some larger apartments, townhouses, duplexes/fourplexes (not really sure that's what they are, but that's what they appear to me to be in various pics).

They'll certainly save me a ton of money over having to buy very expensive, very small, plastic kits.

Personally I think the main challenge will be modern era autobahns that were sure to be the focus of Soviet thrusts, with all their complex approach ramps, sound proofing embankments, islands and so forth…

Nein, nein, nein, das ist nicht richtig!

Actually, those do look pretty good, so…….

Gamecraft has some stuff – I think highways/ramps are available in 15mm, and Allen has basic block apartments (and ruins) for towns.

Yup. Modern stuff is the hardest. Anyone make a gas station? How about tract homes?

Gamecraft makes a 15mm gas station.

They also make apartment buildings, stores, etc. With a little sprucing up they could look excellent.

There are some German companies that make buildings for HO scale model railways that are modern and European looking. Faller is one of the makers.

Lion in the Stars27 Aug 2015 9:22 p.m. PST

Challenge with model railroad buildings is that HO is 1/87. Works OK with 20mm, but makes the buildings big for 15mm.

I'd recommend N (1/160) scale buildings from Faller for 15mm WW3 gamers: link

Buildings will be significantly undersized, but that's OK for most people.

Mako1127 Aug 2015 10:02 p.m. PST

Yes, but for model railroading they make the building slightly smaller, especially the larger ones, to fit on the table better for model railroading.

AND, 15mm is really 18mm now, in many/most cases, so HO scale and 1/100th troops and vehicles are about a perfect match for one another.
