A while ago I offered to do up a couple of Flammenwerferpanzer Renault B2 (f)for a fellow TMP members wargame to be held in Arnhem later this year.

I thought I would chart the progress here so he could at least follow the progress (and moan at me if I dwaddle with them!) and see how they progress over time.

I dont paint on commission anymore, as my time is spent either doing freelance work for PSC or on my own stuff, but every year I try and do the odd thing to help others out. Earlier this year I did a 28mm Chi-Ha for a friend who is running the London Marathon next year for charity and is organising a wargames auction to raise funds for the asthma charity he has chosen.

So as well as that I someone ended up volunteering to do a couple of Flammenwerferpanzer Renault B2 (f)for another poor sod! Well the models arrived sometime ago, two resin models from Warlord Games, so tonight Im gonna start on the work getting them built up and perhaps add a few little tweaks and touches to them.

I shall keep this thread updated as the work continues, but till then, some reference of what I shall be trying to achieve…

Fellow TMP member is suitably impressed; when SWMBO of said member gets home she'll be suitably impressed too…which is significant since they are her tanks.
Send me a link to your pal's charity auction and I'll provide a signed book if he'd like one.

honorable work. bless you.

Not that honourable with amount of swearing done tonight… not fond of working with resin!

Quite a bit of work cleaning them up, drilling out barrels and tow points, then making new tow hooks and hangers and finally adding the heavy duty tow chains that feature on so many Char B tanks…

Now I just have to explain to my 8 year old where one of her necklaces has vanished too…

I am waiting for some conversion bits to make the same tank in 1/72 for an Arnhem game too! I will be very interested in seeing your take on this.

PiersBrand27 Aug 2015 1:49 a.m. PST

Well… Think it will be next week for the basecolours… They have exhausted me this week!

Piers,

as always your craftsmanship is superb, but weren't the Flammpanzer B2(f)s in dunked gelb by the time of Market Garden? I seem to recall a photo of one knocked out on the outskirts of Arnhem sporting a pattern indicative of a dunked gelb based camo scheme….

Checking my copy of Trackstory No. 3 Les Chars B, the tank in the seciond photo in you OP is shown in another photo side view as clearly having the three color camo finish. This Flammpanzer B2(f) number 133 was AFAIK one of those deployed in the Channel Islands by the German occupation troops.

If you'd like I can email you scans of the Flammpanzer B2(f) from my assorted sources, as I am always happy to contribute to the charitable delinquency of others…evil grin

P.S. I feel your pain about resin Chars B of any sort, having hacked my way through a 1/48 Gazoline kit of the B1bis a number of years ago, right down to having to solve the vexing problem of the kit not having a complete set of the distinctive treads….

PiersBrand18 Oct 2015 2:23 p.m. PST

It's a pre-shade to tone the actual colour…

PiersBrand18 Oct 2015 3:28 p.m. PST

…and now with the filter…

BlackWidowPilot Fezian18 Oct 2015 4:40 p.m. PST

Well, I feel suitably silly, and those look more than a little splendid!evil grin

Those are coming on nicely. I am guessing that whilst doing models like these it gives you a chance to try painting for other scales other than 20mm.

PiersBrand19 Oct 2015 4:00 a.m. PST

Yer… I dont like 28mm as a size for gaming WW2, just too big (same as I find 15mm too small for what I like to do) but its nice to paint one occasionally, even if they do wreck my head a little… ;)

The only down side to this project is that these will make the rest of Pat's armour and trucks (painted by me) look totally rubbish and I'll be expected to do something about it.

PiersBrand27 Oct 2015 4:41 a.m. PST

Better get cracking then matey… ;)

Pedrobear29 Oct 2015 5:28 a.m. PST

Those are stunning!

I have actually completed my 1/72 Flammpanzer but I have not posted any photos as I want to surprise my opponent. I also chickened out and painted them in a three-tone camouflage instead of the accurate one you used.

I will post a link on TMP after the game when I use mine. :)

Finally a bit more done, enamel pin wash and pure oil paint on the Char Bs…

…Nearly done…

uglyfatbloke03 Nov 2015 3:28 a.m. PST

The pressure to improve her existing stock has already started and she's only seen the photos of these gems. I expect it's time to start experimenting with 'filter'…which I'd never even heard of until t'other week….alternatively I could completely festoon everything with foliage I suppose!
