I was hoping for some suggestion from people about non-d20 fantasy games. I play pathfinder and have castles & crusades but would like to try something different. I like games that are in the easy to mid difficulty range. Also I am looking for stuff that is in print and is supported with resources. Thanks |

Well, "in print", is a bit of a strained concept nowadays: much of TSR/WotC's OOP stuff is being made available, again, in the form of PDF's. AD&D versions, as well as Basic D&D versions, are available again. If interested, check out: RPGNow, and DnD Classics. Personally, I still play AD&D 2nd Ed. Have never tried anything beyond it -- no need, no desire, too happy with 2nd to bother with anything else. Cheers! |

Iron Gauntlets by Precis Intermedia is probably in the mid-difficulty range, maybe a bit lower. Tales of Blades and Heroes is a d6 game, based on the Song of Blades and Heroes skirmish engine but still a RPG. Both are "in print" (via print on demand) and supported, though not to D&D-like levels. |

Fate. Maybe the best system out-there though it requires a mature and good crew. |

I would suggest Fudge as well. Fudge is more of a DIY RPG kit, but it's ideal for the sort of game I personally like – heavy on the narrative, and light on the rules mechanisms. You can't beat the price (free), either. ToB&H is very interesting as well, particularly the magic system. At $8 USD it's not quite free, but it's certainly cheap enough to buy a copy just to see what ideas can be stolen from it. Doug |

I would suggest that you look at FATE (which is a polished version of FUDGE) and Savage Worlds. Both of which are in print, well supported, easily obtained from Amazon and other sources, and are inexpensive. Did I mention that both have large followings as well? |

I'm a GURPS fan myself. Lots of support for all genres and still in print and PDF, not many off the shelf adventures for it however |

The latest version of Advanced Fighting Fantasy is a gem, IMO, simple but plenty of character customisation. And, although its OOP its easy to pick up on eBay, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay is an immortal classic. |

I would thoroughly recommend FATE. An excellent system aimed squarely at character interaction and ROLE playing rather than the crunchyness of D20 and many other systems. |

Barbarians of Lemuria! One of the most elegant, effective, and fun systems for real S&S adventures. |

Runequest! Most editions are great. Even more awesome when paired with the "Glorantha" setting (which it has been integrated with and separated with alternately over the years/editions)… Equally great with other settings too! |

I checked out FATE and I went and bought tales f blades and heroes. I have SBH and really enjoy the activation mechanic. 1st edition Warhammer fantasy is one of my all time favorite games. Thanks again for all of the suggestions |

Warhammer Fantasy 3rd. The Burning Wheel. Tunnels & Trolls. Song of Ice & Fire. |

The two best systems not mentioned so far are The Legend of the Five Rings and DeadLands. L5R is still in print, while DeadLands is available in PDF form. L5R is set in a China/Japan equivalent, while DeadLands is THE Weird West game. |

+1 for Savage Worlds! Great, fast-playing system that translates smoothly onto the miniatures tabletop. |

I cut my teeth on The Fantasy Trip, which has been pretty much reincarnated by Heros and Otherworlds and Dark City Games' Legends of the Ancient World and it's supplements. I'm also a big Tunnels and Trolls fan. Two Hour Wargames' Swordplay is a lot of fun. All of these games can be played solitaire, if necessary. Regards, Scott Chisholm |
