I am wanting to start doing medieval. I'm going to be going 15mm due to prices. I'm looking for a set of rules that is 5-10 men per fig or a 1 to 1 rule set. So bring on the suggestions please.

"Lion Rampant" would be my suggestion.

Depends on A) what you mean by medieval…450 AD or 1450 AD…and B) whether you want Hollywood or history. If the former, Lion Rampant is at least as good as anything else. If you can find a playable set of rules that gives a reasonable picture of medieval warfare, drop me a line!

> a reasonable picture of medieval warfare

Is the ruling out yet how that picture looks?

Can't hurt to plug an old favorite: Knights & Magick. A fairly simple combat system good for personal combat, small to large skirmishes even jousts…with a lot of campaign info, historical army lists etc

Have you considered doing 1/72 plastics? They're larger, with plenty of detail (IMO), and very affordable. Lots of makers, lots of periods and nationalities available. One of the best places to look at what is available, is Plastic Soldier Review. Best of luck! Cheers!

Puster…absolutely not, but I live in hope that one day we'll get something that makes historical sense and is playable.

Just turn back to Dark Ages and Ancients now, while you still can. Once you embark upon Medievals, you discover heraldry… eventually you have 500 individual coats ofcarms on shields in your army, and can narrate the ancestry of each for your opponent.

Save yourself!

For now: Lion Rampant BUT with modifications (see a Weekend of Lion Rampant).

Also BattleLust – old and bit rule heavy but very good simulation of skirmish level.

Modern 28mm plastics are quite reasonable. Perry Brother HYW box sets of 40 figures are generally around $35.00 USD. Same for their WOR line. 20mm plastics would be second choice for quality combined with low price.

Fun period a bit underserved by current rules.

I would suggest looking at period specific rules, such as -

Ironbow – Crusades
Strongbow – other medieval
Poleaxed 2 – WOTR
Shattered Lances – Crusades
A Coat of Steel – WOTR

And even go old school with something like Lances 3rd
