The next offering in my 2015 Heavy Cavalry Division project consists of two limber teams. Perry Minis as usual, but the set does lack the third horse pair usual to teams attached to horse artillery batteries.

Nice shading/highlights and great dappled grey horse, leading, off side!

Clever basing! I was going to suggest the gun itself on a separate small base, that way you can alter what they tow and it easier to fit six horses onto a single (long!) base, with harness attcahed.

Your idea works well for transporting and storage I'll bet

Not only did French horse artillery have six-horse gun teams, but 12-pounder gun companies did also for the heavier field piece. Usually, one caisson per piece also had a six-horse team.

Beautiful painting and as deadhead said, clever basing.

Your shade of blue (is it "iron grey" that they call it?) is just what I imagined. I know this photography skill and the white balance makes a huge difference too, but what did you use?

Thanks for the input, Kevin. Unfortunately the Twins don't provide the option to buy an extra leading pair in the canter, which is a shame. However, their Guard 12pdr limbers come with three pairs.

Citadel paints, dh: Kantor Blue shade, then The Fang, with 50/50 Codex Grey/The Fang for the highlight.

Many thanks all grin

I did think of basing them as you suggest, dh, or, at least, leaving the gun loose. However, as I'm doing a specific formation, the ability to vary gun type is less important. So I went for the robust option.

If they been an extra horse pair available, I'd have the two front pairs on a double larger base (linked by tracings) with the limber and rear team as shown (but also with tracings).

No, I like your idea more than my version with the tow itself variable eg gun or caisson or even forge! Tracings look good but are hard work and very fragile for gaming I would imagine

Lovely work as usual, Janner.

Lovely stuff as always. Limbers are always a strange one, although I now have more limbers in 28mm than 15mm! However as they are not used very often I went for the OG option, except for my Austrian Ammo cart which just had to be Perry!!

Tally Ho!

Thanks chaps, here are the next batch of limbers:

I particularly enjoyed doing the skewbald draught horses for the howitzer limber grin
