These pics are just a quick record of what I've been up to of late.

There's are a couple of bases of Ceorls and a 'Sneak Peek' of the Harold Godwinson Battle Line Base.

I've got to add sand and indeed filler to most the bases; I'm waiting until I've found my nice mix of various grades of sand which is in my new garage (somewhere!?) and the banner on the Godwinson stand need tidying up and the edges need painting. There's also the draco standard to add as I'm waiting on that arriving in the mail.

Looking lovely, I like the depth of the bases.

Nice brush strokes. Didn't Harold fight under a Red Dragon (shown on the tapestry) and the Fighting Man banner of Wessex?

Great work, Darrell. I'm not convinced by the checkered shield though.

Lovely painting…but would 'lesser fyrd' be using the Dane Axe which I thought was the prestige weapon of the professional Huscarl?

Thanks to all for their positive input.

Lovely painting…but would 'lesser fyrd' be using the Dane Axe which I thought was the prestige weapon of the professional Huscarl?

Why not? I have used the the term 'lesser fyrd' loosely. It might have been a prestige weapon but I don't see any reason why a well off Ceorl or Thegn might not pick up a Dane axe. We're talking the 11th Century here and the days of the Gesith getting weapons as gifts from their Lord were almost certainly long gone. After all, many Irish 'nobles' used the Daneaxe and they were a lot worse off than the average five hides man of worth in Lowland Britain.

I admit that he's be better off buying a helmet and byrnie first but what the hell :>)

Great work, Darrell. I'm not convinced by the checkered shield though.

Well, I was getting bored LOL :>)

Thanks again for the comments chaps and chapesses. All very much appreciated.

Lovely work Darrell. Looking forward to seeing the Demo game at Salute…

Thanks Dave- it has been a target of mine for a few years now. I put on Fulford Gate using the Gripping Beast collection of mini's at Claymore a few years ago and that won Best Demo Game so hopefully Hastings will be able to stand the Salute test of quality.

More pics ;ater today, when the sun comes up! LOL :>)
