Hi everyone,

This summer I have been sculpting and casting metal spacecraft as a follow on from the fighters that I made last year. I've gone up in the pecking-order and made Corvettes or Bombers depending on how you see space combat. They are able to out-gun the faster fighters, but have less manoeuvrability. They were sculpted with Milliput and the moulds were made from RTV Silicone. Then they were cast in metal. They are about 2cm long and I figure the scale to be about 1/1200th (I'm an old Triang- Minic ship fan) so that would make them the size of a small cutter or tug in marine parlance I reckon. Here are some pictures. More can be seen over on the blog.

Those are terrific. I scrolled down as well, and read about the homemade altitude posts; great idea!

By the way, I think you could sell these models.

These are some pretty good looking ships.

Agree with those above, those are cool little ships.

You see? No matter how cheap you are, you can find a greater skinflint. I probably would have nicked bar straws to go with the toothpicks I'd nick from the same place… ;->=

Thanks, Kropotkin!

I like them. Looks like Silent Death done by the guy at Brigade Models who does the 2mm supertanks.

Thanks a lot guys. Great feedback. Glad that people saw the flight stands that I made as they really help to get that 3D effect for space combat. They could also be used for submarine or air battles.

Now I need to work on a frigate class set of ships and this is going to really push me. In my mind I've got to find a way to make them identifiable as belonging to each of the races, but avoid just making them just bigger versions of the fighters/corvettes. Luckily my friend bought me this to help.

Many of us older guys were introduced to Chris Foss by, besides MANY sci-fi novel covers, the TTA books. Take a peak if you can find any; his was not the only work in there.

And, it's almost as easy to hit an used book shop's sci-fi section, and look for yellowed pages. Covers tend to be properly lurid. ;->=
