Here is the run down on "Guns of August, 2015"! The Gang really pulled together after experiencing the loss of Carl, "Our Fearless Leader" on April 30th to help make this our most successful show in it's 8 year history! As always, without a group of dedicated Staff willing to tow the line and get things done putting on a convention of even modest size would be impossible!
Total attendance came in at 368, we served up 62 miniature events, and 3 tournaments (FOW, Bolt Action, & Kings of War) along with 4 Demo Games put on by some of our Vendors. The soft drinks and snacks from our Hospitality Room kept everyone's gaming strength up throughout the weekend, and thanks to all attendees who made donations that help off set some of the costs of refreshments!
Some of our regular Vendors and attendees had family issues, or other good reasons arise at the last minute, which precluded their participation, but they all stated they would be there once again at "Williamsburg Muster" next February! We missed them, but understand that real life just happens to all of us sometimes!
Mr. John Nugent gave several presentations on the U.S. Navy's involvement during the Viet Nam War both at sea and on the Brown Waters using his very nice dioramas he had put together for the purpose. We also had a couple of local reenactors from the 1ST British Para Regiment give presentations on that Regiment's actions during WW II, and they answered a lot of questions from the 25+ members of the Under 13 year old group that attended over the weekend!
On Saturday afternoon we held our Charity Raffle on behalf of the Veterans housed at the Spinal Cord Injury Unit at the V. A. Hospital in Hampton, VA! We gave out a total of 25 prizes purchased/donated by our Club Members as well as items donated by each of our Vendors! Each game or set of painted miniatures had a average value of more then $60.00 USD! Ticket sales were very brisk, and will allow us to double our usual donation to our Veterans! My personal thanks go to all of you who either donated items, or bought tickets! The money received goes directly to benefit the Veterans with no middle man, or admin cost involved! So on their behalf, THANKS!!!
Well, that's it in a nut shell, as they say, thank you to the Vendors that attended, the GMs who put on some great games this year, and last but not least all our attendees! We look forward to seeing each and every one of you at Muster 2016! For those who have never been to one of our two shows, maybe next year is the year you should come and check things out for yourself! You won't regret it to be sure!! See you all in February!
