"After a significant period of decline, the Argentine armed forces have ceased to be a capable military force. In August 2015, the Argentine air force retired its Mirage fighters, with only a handful of them even flyable.

Things don't look any better for the other services, the depleted Argentine Navy rarely puts to sea, has almost no spare parts and for the most part, doesn't actually have any ammunition. 2012 saw the training ship ARA Libertad seized in Ghana on the orders of a hedge fund seeking reparations from the Argentinian government. Shortly afterward, the corvette ARA Espora was stranded in South Africa for seventy-three days after the German company hired to repair a mechanical fault refused to carry out the work as a result of the Argentine government's unpaid bills. 2013 saw the sinking of the decommissioned destroyer ARA Santísima Trinidad in port as a consequence of poor maintenance…"

Things are NOT like this article describe… they are MUCH WORST…! (smile).

For example… up today the Air Force have to reduce their working hours to only four hours a day because … there are no money to feed the staff … the number of combat aircraft fit to fly across the country amount … five! … The army has no fuel to move their vehicles and soldiers should use civilian means of transport to get to their barracks … etc etc.

Therefore … WE ARE READY FOR INVASION !! … Please… anyone come in here!!… he have made several flags just in case (as my french relatives did in WW2)… (smile).

Falklands… rests peaceful! (smile)

Has anyone told the Argentine government this yet?

The term 'Cloud Cuckoo Land' springs to mind.

Well if you ask nicely we could unite the Falklands and Argentina after all…

Any Pucara's for sale?

What happened to their cattle industry?

What if Madonna and Trump marry and take over Argentina?

Noble71323 Aug 2015 8:48 a.m. PST

So if I ever need some cheap mercenaries, I should shop in Argentina first?

Gennorm23 Aug 2015 11:39 a.m. PST

WE ARE READY FOR INVASION

Especially between 13:01 and 07:59 as far as the air force is concerned!

On a far better outlook on things, what does it say about your neighbors when your defense force rots away and no one takes advantage of it. Maybe someday we can all let our armies and navies and air forces go unfunded and unneeded.

And then the Martians, or Borg, or the Visitors come to visit/stay/feast/etc.

I think it's less the threat environment and more the ugly financial straits that Argentina faces. The Philippines is in similar shape, however I think their economy is far better.

My concern is are we looking at the first major failed state in the Western Hemisphere?

Tango0123 Aug 2015 2:46 p.m. PST

Dear Rob… nothing of that really happen… (smile).

We miss the 1806/07 opportunity… so … we have to paid the price (smile).

Look at it this way, Costa Rica disbanded their military in 1949 and things have only improved for them ever since!

How do the Forces of Chaos build fortresses? You would need some tolerably competent engineers, who on the whole are not fond of chaos. It would be very annoying when the value of Pi kept changing……

Or, maybe it is like a very bad episode of Grand Designs. "We ordered the flanges from Morg'retf but he measured it it flatajs instead of descrats so now we have a two descratft gap between the doors….."

Weird, the bug struck. I wrote a post denigrating President Cristina. She's a real nut job, and Argentina deserves better.

emckinney23 Aug 2015 8:55 p.m. PST

That's not a bug, that's a feature.

Tango0123 Aug 2015 11:20 p.m. PST

Christina is worst than a bug… (smile)
