At the beginning of the last century a huge increase in the size of the Japanese navy took place. It began with pre Dreadnoughts many of which were built in Britain. It didn't take them long to put their new fleet to use against the Russians. A couple of club members have excellent collections of these two fleets and a game was put on with each ship commanded by one player.

A report of the game can be found here-

That is a *very* nice looking table. The paint jobs are very well done, the wire masts are an excellent refinement, and the rigging, flags and smoke bring those models alive. My compliments to the artisan.

I see the primary turrets were left free to rotate. That's a nice touch.

I really like the clear bases on a few of those. Do you know how they were done?

Love those pre-dreadnoughts – great AAR and minis, nice personnel connection with the Hatsuse

Very impressive work on those ships. Love the markers, too.

Love your AAR. What rules were you using?

Really like that smoke effect, very evocative.

I particularly love the character of the Russian ships – the decks look dirty, there are rust stains on the turrets, etc.

The bases are made from transparent plasticard with vallejo clear water effect applied around the ship model. He then highlighted the wave-tops white on some of them.

The rules are Naval Thunder – Rise of the Battleship 1904-1905.They also do Clash of Dreadnoughts (WW1) and Rise of The Battleship II for nations other than Russian/Japanese in 1904-1905.They do a WW2 version of the rules as well.

Fantastic looking ships. Is there a tutorial on how these ships were painted?
